I'm with Qwerty on this one. The chorus of Final Masquerade, and the whole song really, is just there for me. Yeah it's unfortunate but I think Mark is the reason more of those didn't get released. I recall Mike saying something like that. Not sure why he's so opposed to their old recordings being released.
In what truly can be considered Random LP Chat, there was a TV ad for the show The Only Way Is Essex (UK members will know this dumpster fire of a show), and the song for it was the Mike Shinoda / Martin Garrix track "Waiting For Tomorrow". I done a double take so hard it actually hurt my neck, couldn't believe what I was hearing
i'm really hoping for a full-on hip-hop track on "From Zero". Or at least a track with proper long verses. Stuff like HHH, WTCFM, I have not begun, UIB. it's been 12 years since Mike did a track like that with LP, and I miss that aspect of the band. Dedicated and High Voltage (2000) are still some of my favorite old LP jams. Unleash the bars, Mike. You got this.
Just find out that Collin produced Hands Like Houses' album Dissonants, nice. Definitely a band worth checking out, especially their 2nd album Unimagine.
Ran into the VMA 2005 soundtrack by Mike yesterday. Completely forgot that thing existed. The anticipation has been fun so far, there is that aspect of it that is like going to your attic, opening very old dusty boxes, and being surprised at what's in there.
GATS sure bangs hard, even 10 years later. One of the most ambitious and adventurous heavy tracks from the band, and executed so well. Super catchy. Also, Rakim is awesome.
Lately I've been looking at the band's career in the late 2000s. It is absolutely insane to me the massive swing to MTM they made following Meteora, how successful they were in that album, and how their very next move was A Thousand Suns. It's one thing to make a big career pivot, but to pull it off as successfully as they did speaks to them as songwriters I think. And then to make another hard shift and pull it off? Jeez.
The ambition at the time was insane. Even dropping The Catalyst as a first single was absolutely bonkers at the time. That vocal effect on Mike starting the song must’ve caused severe whiplash at the time. I still remember that “techno” and “dubstep” were the terms used to describe that song lmao
Absolutely. I remember Mike said something a couple years back to the effect of they had to fight the label to get it released as the lead single, because the label wanted to go with WFTE. Had to bargain with them and tell them WFTE would be a big single released later, like In the End or Numb. They really believed it encapsulated the album more than any other song.
