That wouldn't be as big a deal as you think if Sony would have simply admitted that. But they said it would be 100% backwards compatible with every single PS1 and PS2 game ever made. Microsoft said the 360 wouldn't be fully backwards compatible, so the backlash for them wasn't as bad. But Sony, with their amazing arrogance, basically said not having sound in some of the games isn't a big deal and things like that.
True. But maybe they were trying to make cosplayers act the scenes out. Lawl. But yeah, judging by how amazing my USED slim ps2 I got works in comparison to my 'discontinued first gen ps2' model, it kinda tells you something. Don't buy systems at release, wait till they get the bugs ironed out and a slight price drop happens.
Which is what i'm actually doing with the PS3. Actually we did it with the PS2 as well. My money's betting on that we'll get it when Madden '08 comes out.
Yeah I remember when I got my PS2, which was a little after the release...maybe a few months, the eye in the system broke after playing about 10 times. So I had to go to wal-mart and they replaced it for me.
I think we got ours like 2 weeks before the fuckers dropped the price the first time. Can't tell you how I got it (save that for a PM or something) but we got Madden 2002 and Gran Turismo 3. We we're supposed to get GTA 3 but my mom got it confused. Oh well, extra game then.
For those who don't believe a rumble-motion sensor controller existed, I found information on the controller mentioned in an earlier post. It was called the TiltForce 2 (not much info, but the most I could find considering how old and relatively unknown it was) and it came out for the Playstation. It was developed by third party company Pelican and despite never being used commercially, actually existed. The controller not only had a first generation tilt sensor in the control, but it was also able to vibrate via rumble. Now as I said, I'd give Sony the benefit of the doubt if they could show us just how the technology has advanced too greatly to have both features included. I know that the PS3's tilt sensor is much more advanced since it can now acknowledge vertical tilting as well as horizontal (I believe the TiltForce 2 can only read horizontal), but nevertheless, you'd think they'd build off what has already been accomplished. I do agree though, the patent lawsuit is probably the REAL reason Sony didn't add in the rumble. I personally would have liked to hear that instead of the "we can't add both, blah blah"... Because that just makes them sound lazy or inadequate to the competition and gives us reasons to doubt if "they can't do this, then they can't do that."
I think the PS3 will do fine. It's expensive and all that but it looks and plays unbelievable. The Xbox360 doesn't keep me amazed for long. It's great, don't get me wrong, but the PS3 will be much more Next-Gen than the Xbox360 will ever be...
Just wait for third party PS3 controllers, they will have motion AND vibration. Sony is just helping the third party people by doing this.
I'll agree, that part about the shooting is rather accurate, but iirc, there's a lot of places where rumble could be used in some games, but isn't, or is used in a bad way. Although, a great game that uses the rumble feature feature to the extreme is Rez. Todd pretty much hit the nail on the head. "2. Some company has a patent on rumble and sued the crap out of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft solved the problem by buying out the company." From 7.8GB up to 200GB* Like Ant said, "But they said it would be 100% backwards compatible with every single PS1 and PS2 game ever made." Hopefully Sony'll stick to their word, otherwise there's going to be a riot... My fat PS2 needs a replacement (forget what gen it is) sometime soon, it's falling apart, but it's modded, so I don't quite want to get rid of it. Nor do I want to spend the money to get a new slim one, and a new chip. I don't play my PS2 that much anyways. *shrug* QFT. Hopefully they won't be shitty quality, as they usually are.
They did say that but it's been reported that about 200 ps1/ps2 games won't work. I read it on gamespot and it had a link to a japanese site that listen all of the games but all the names
Yeah, right now. But I'm sure Sony's going to be working on fixing that. There are such things as firmware updates.
