For any Obama/Biden supporters who thought Biden didn't do good...this right here I thought was the best comeback of the night: Biden: Can I respond to that? Look, let's talk about the maverick John McCain is. And again I love him, he's been a maverick on some issues but he's been no maverick on things that a matter people's lives. He voted four out of five times for George Bush's budget which put us half a trillion in debt this year and over three trillion in debt since he got there. He has not been a maverick in providing health care for people. He voted against including another 3.6 million children in coverage of an existing health care plan in the United States Senate. He's not been a maverick when it comes to education. He has not supported tax cuts and significant changes for people being able to send their kids to college, he's not been a maverick on the war, not been a maverick on virtually anything that generally affects the things people really talk about around the kitchen table. Can we get mom's MRI? Can we send Mary back to school next semester? We can't make it. How will we heat the house this winter? He even voted against what they call LIHEAP, for assistance for people with oil prices going through the roof in the winter. So a maverick he is not, on the important critical issues that affect people at the kitchen table.
I'm just saying she did better than I thought she would have. I know it wasn't a "knockout", as you say, but she didn't back down and she was definitely playing hardball. People who don't know the "facts", as Biden put it, would be all over this and it could have a positive effect on the McCain/Palin campaign. Perhaps I'm wrong but I'm sticking to my opinion.
You are very right, as I at certain times did think that Palin was going to win it and it scared me. However; being the informed voter that I consider myself to be, I saw through what she said and knew the facts versus the "tried and true" talking points that we see repeated in every negative campaign ad. However, what worried me is that some undecided voters would not know the truth and instead would rather go towards her because she exceeded everyone's expectations in this debate. Luckily as polls are showing, this is not the case. CNN shows Biden as the clear winner among undecideds. However, it is important that the next two presidential debates have a knockout winner..or otherwise the undecideds will likely remain that way until the last moment. By the way, the following comment really surprised me: "And on CNN, David Gergen echoes what the aide said: Palin did what she needed to do, but "Joe Biden gave the best debate performance of his life.' " I personally thought Biden did better against Hillary and Obama, but hell if Gergen thinks this...I wonder how many undecideds are believing the same thing? Hmmm, I wonder.
I didn't watch the debate because I didn't have access to a TV or the Internet while it was on but my friend just texted me and told me that Biden was really, really awesome during the debate.
Hahaha. It was great, but what about the 'ultimate bridge to nowhere' ? I thought that was absolutely super effing win. And overall, I thought Biden did a great job. He was respectful while touching on a hell of a lot more of the facts than Palin, without referring to the same 3 points over and over again. I thought Palin did alright overall, but especially toward the beginning it was almost painful when she straight up avoided several questions in a row, instead falling back on her energy 'expertise'. It was an interesting debate, but I don't feel like typing forever.
I thought this was an interesting read. Definitely shows that neither VP had their facts straight. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081003/ap_on_el_pr/debate_fact_check
Isnt it strange that Bush and the Dems are suddenly working together? It does stink but just like Bush has been accused of doing several times, fear tactics work on the uneducated. Bailout pork More pork...
I don't about other people but I was kind of offended when Palin said that she wasn't going to respond the way the moderator/people in Washington wanted her to, (may not be an exact quote but it's the jist of it) to me that's just being stubborn, also I believe that she'd be dangerous trying to seek more power than is warranted by the definition of what it means to be vice president, if Mccain dies indeed win the election she doesn't need anymore power. Also in the debate she avoided a lot of questions. To be fair though she did do way better than I had expected but in either case she did not change my view on her one bit though, she sounded way too rehearsed, almost giving me the idea that she was doing something by a specific script but that's me quite honestly to me that is annoying and in some kind of way terrifying, if she's remembering a script and really doesn't know what she is talking about then being one missed heartbeat away from being President is a very scary reality. Also I'm fed up with this thing about how boys will be condescending if they attack a girl in a debate, hey you don't agree, you argue your point, someone tells a lie, you tell them out on it, you make it known what you stand for and you fight for your voice to be heard and saying "oh she's a girl, she might be wrong but I don't want to offended her" i think that's insane. Again sorry if it offends anyone but that's just my opinion. Edit Revised. __________________
Best quote I've read, pertaining to that: Harold Ford remarked on Sarah Palin’s lack of responsiveness to Gwen Ifill’s questions: “she had a set of answers to a set of questions, even if the question was not asked she was going to provide the answer.”
I want to keep believing Joe Biden really isnt this stupid but he proves me wrong every time I turn around. We (and France) kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon? Wrong, we made the Syrians leave but I guess its all the same to him. Kind of like all of the 7-11 workers are Indians in Delaware, right Senator Biden? Did NATO race in after the 2006 Israel/Hezbollah incursion on Biden and Obama's call? eL-Oh-fawking-eL-4-lyfe. You have got to be kidding me. And people claim they are scared of Palin as a VP. Biden is an exposed phony who cannot write his own speech. He doesnt even know when FDR was President and that the Great Depression happened before FDR AND television! And uh....Article I of the Constitution describes the legislative powers, Joe. Article II is for the Executive Branch. I love this quote from a Biden defender.
I got this from Powerman 5000's blog: NOT TO GET ALL POLITICAL ON YOUR ASS OR ANYTHING... Watching Sarah Palin debate last week was insane! Has the world gone mad?!! It was like watching a semi retarded high school girl try to make sense of the world! She doesn't believe man has anything to do with climate change! Holy shit! Yeah and Dinosaurs never existed either, right? Just a bunch of memorized talking points from a trained monkey. And stop talking down to people by refering to them as "joe sixpack" or "hockey moms". FUCK YOU SARAH PALIN! Love, Spider
Biden puts himself across as a bit of a knob at times, but for the most part I'd still favour him over Palin, preeetty easily. I am generally more left than right anyway but the Republicans have been so badly represented in this election, it's pretty ridiculous.
Exactly. Any criticism against Biden can then by amounted 10 fold for Palin. Wow, Biden messed up on some historical accuracies and dates, that doesn't make him a lesser VP than Palin at all. It makes me laugh that trivial things such as how a person gives a speech makes them favour someone else, as if THAT is what's important to look for in electing a president and their running mate. Give me a break.
In the words of Robin Williams: George Bush: Why are we trying to bailout a dead black comedian? One of his advisors: No, this is FREDDIE mac you idiot.
I assume you didnt crack one joke or look down on Bush because of his well known knack for being a bad speech giver in the last 8 years?
Y-you have a posting approval system now? I'm a veteran damn it! Anyways I just have to say, no matter how long my breaks from LPA are, I can always come back to read about American politics. Thanks gais. I'll be watching the debate from work at midday Wednesday!
