Because mentioning the idea of assassination, in a race that has been plagued by fears of someone making an attempt on Senator Obama's life....even if it IS to give us a 5 second history lesson, is absolutely inexcusable. She basically implied that she's staying in the race because anything could happen, including someone shooting Obama and her taking over the nomination as a result. Even if that was not her intention, the fact she has made this same statement (just worded differently) several times in the last 3 months, and said it right after Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with cancer proves that she either lacks the capacity to think before she speaks, or is tasteless enough to even believe such a thing could happen. The woman has gone far enough, and if she would like to save her chances of running in 2012, or even her political career she should bow out of the race before the next primary. Like Olbermann said, we can no longer excuse her lies as 'missteps' or products of fatique. It's happened far too often (Bosnia anybody?) and therefore she cannot be trusted.
Are you fucking kidding me? The only reason she mentioned either of the things she mentioned is because she won't quit until she's the Democratic nominee, even if that means staying in the race and thus hurting the Democratic Party, or staying in the race until someone shoots Obama, which is exactly what she meant. She shouldn't have mentioned it because it did happen and is a very real possibility whenever anyone is running for president. She is tactless and tasteless and does not deserve this nomination. You claiming she was alright to say it is almost as bad as her saying it to begin with.
It's more than a little ridiculous for anyone to suggest her mentioning Senator Robert Kennedy's assassination at any time other than at, say, a remembrance ceremony is OK, especially when the connotation lying underneath her words is the fact someone else thus secured the Democratic nomination for President. Senator Clinton's intent was clear and anyone who can't see the fact is either blind or doesn't understand how politics work. Yes, there are a lot of attacks in politics, but this was beyond tactless, beyond tasteless and, most of all, beyond being what an American is all about. You'll never hear Senator Obama claim he'll stay in the race because "Senator Kennedy was assassinated in June." He'd be implying he's only in the race because there's a chance someone will shoot Senator Clinton in between the eyes, which is the exact same thing Senator Clinton meant in the first place. She only bothered to mention her husband (President Clinton) securing the nomination in June to lessen the blow of her mentioning Senator Kennedy's assassination, but it didn't work at all. She needs to quit now while she's ahead (actually, behind): Senator Obama is still in the race because he knows he can win, whereas Senator Clinton is still in the race because she knows she'll hurt Senator Obama's chances if she stays in the race.
I agree she should duck out of the race instead of hurting her party, since she could reenter if need be later. I just don't see why her noting that terrible things can happen is such a terrible thing. The future is unpredictable, and terrible things have happened in the past. Sure, it may have been a touch tactless, but it is hardly enough bar someone from office though. Someone stating a true fact shouldn't be a crime. It isn't like she is implying she WANTS Obama to be shot. Just that something could happen to him so people should be prepared. I mean, the fact that she is so despicable in other ways makes it harder to really go all out defending her, but I think this issue is being blown out of proportion if we ignore her other "missteps".
I don't think she ever said she couldn't be assassinated...didn't she go on about some attack she faced? Something could happen to either of them, so the other should be ready... And you don't have to be so condescending, Will...
Senator Clinton lied about being under sniper fire in Bosnia so I don't know what you're getting at. I also don't know why you're trying to rationalize her comments about Kennedy's assassination. That's completely ridiculous for you to even try. When's the last time you heard two Presidential candidates warn each other that they might get shot? There's no basis for her to "warn" anyone or tell anyone they should be "ready." That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. That's like telling an Olympic swimmer not to swim because he might drown.
I was just saying that she admits her life is at risk too (she even made up a scenario to bring about that point). She wasn't warning Obama, she was just telling the public why she was still in the race. I mean, I don't think she should still be in the race and should have dropped out as reentered if something did happen. She is power hungry and destroying her party. But if we for some reason assumed she couldn't drop out and reenter, then I think her point would be valid. Either way, saying "I'm here just in case something happens to my opponent" is not an unfair action to take.
But the fact is, any attempts to rationalize Mrs. Clinton are moot and unnecessary. She has a lot of support (just not enough because Obama is leading), and therefore it is entirely possible for her to run again in 2012 if she feels the need to, or if for some reason Obama/McCain were not the best presidents and people would rather have Hillary. Dropping out now does not mean she'll never get the chance to run for office again, but instead it will make her look respectable and help save her political career. If she doesn't drop out soon, it'll be suicide. People will label her as a divider and she'll have no chance to become president if she tries running again sometime in 2012. So therefore, trying to claim she's staying in the race because "anything could happen" and insinuating heavily that Obama might get shot, is ludicrous. She should leave now and throw her support behind Obama to help beat McCain (which is what really matters) but the problem is that she never actually will. She's delirious and thinks she still actually has a shot at this shit. It's proven that MI and FL cannot help her, even if judgment is made in her favor...but no, she thinks that's what she needs to win this thing. What a sore loser.
I actually think Chelsea would be better than her mother. And it's freaky how much she resembles her mom:
If by that you mean that they are both completely hideous and would cause anyone to throw up in their mouth, then yes.
