You have got to be fucking kidding me. You sound like the wingnuts on Fox News who whine about every little fucking thing Obama does. It's called manners and customs and showing respect. It's customary to bow to the king of Saudi Arabia, and I would hope that Obama, or anyone meeting him, has enough respect for other cultures to bow, just like I would expect a foreign head of state visiting Obama to shake his hand, even if it's not customary or even perhaps rude in their native culture. It's just what you do. No offense, but when other people around the world refer to Americans as ignorant and arrogant, it's people like you who they're talking about. People like you who seem to have no regard for other cultures and ways of life and expect everyone to adapt to your customs instead of the other way around for once. Oh, and one more thing. Here's your hero George Bush bowing to the Saudi king:
I don't care that Bush did it too (and by the way, I didn't care for him, smartass), I still think that the apparent strongest leader in the world should not bow down to another world leader. Yes, it's a sign of respect, but it's also a stronger sign of inferiority, and being friends with the leaders should not be as important as showing our strength as a country through our President. However, since all of you don't care what I have to say because you've all decided that I'm wrong, I'm backing off of it. But I still stand with my opinion.
It has nothing to do with showing inferiority, it has to do with showing respect, and maintaining a positive relationship with our allies. Saudi Arabia is our only real ally in the Middle East, and if bowing as a sign of respect is a easy way of doing so, then I don't see why it should be an issue.
Why shouldn't he bow? Apart from the fact that it is a sign of respect, who says America has to be king shit anyway? Honestly, I hate to break it to Americans sometimes, but the rest of the world does not see you as it's leader
Nail. Head. ----------------------- Arlene, not everything America or it's leaders do has to be a sign of muscle-flexing. I highly doubt anyone outside of America and it's Obama-critics has actually looked at this situation and gone "ZOMG, clearly America is showing signs of weakness, let's attack nao!". This whole scenario just reeks of people trying to find any and every little thing Obama does that could be taken as a mistake, and blowing it way out of proportion. It's just as bad as the whole "he's the second coming of Lenin!" bullshit spruiked by the right.
It's funny, when you consider that and look at some of the comments on the Youtube clip where people seem to be criticising it purely because it happened to be a Middle-Eastern Islamic leader that he bowed to. Is Saudi Arabia really the only US ally in that part of the world, though? Unless you were just speaking in terms of the predominantly Islamic countries in that area, in which case that probably isn't far off accurate.
I really..NEVER talk about politics much but I fucking HATE when people say "America is the greatest nation in the world" Things like that, when people show their LOVE for how "strong" or "superior" this nation is. Or it gets to a point where, if you're not the best than "I still think I am" or "We're Invincible"...I hate that. Sure, I'm American and I wouldn't ever think of saying all those people who served and died in the military died for nothing, but come ON! Who is to judge which nation is "The greatest" or "Most powerful", just fucking co-exist and stop wanting more and more. (This goes for anyone IMO.) This really has nothing to do with any previous statements, except for the fact that I saw Fox News dissecting the Bow clip on TV and I got pissed off.
Needless post, Stupid late night posting rant lol. =============================== Edit: Can we have more relevant stuff to politics than debating over a fucking Bow? It has nothing to effect his Efficiency as President and Does not impede him in his ability to work. How's about this, Can anyone tell me whats the latest 3 things Obama has done to attempt to fix the Economy?
Arlene, I think you are exemplifying what is wrong with Republicans right now. When you go to meet with foreign leaders in their country, it is generally seen as well-mannered and respectful to follow their traditions, assuming they are not harmful. If Obama went over there and made Michelle dress in a Burkha, I would say that is disgusting, but this is just politeness. No need to force animosity.
I personally think Rush Limbaugh needs to just go away quietly. He is a blight to the Republican party. Anyone who can sit there and say that no one has ever died as a result of being tortured to gain information in time of war is just kidding themselves, whether at the hands of our military or someone else.
He's an idiot as far as I can tell. Just blathering on with ad hominem cliches and elitism is a sure-fire way of showing that you don't actually know what you're talking about. I hate when anyone of any persuasion does it, and he seems to do it more than most.
Idiot doesn't begin to cover it. He's just obnoxious and so blind to any ideology other than his own. Its really annoying. He and Bill O'Reilly both are just over opinionated, pompous windbags.
I have to say, albeit as an outsider to US politics, the caller in that clip seems to have got it right. Everyone I know who is a conservative of some sort, whether they're fellow students, co-workers, teachers, family members... pretty much everyone I know who is aware of them thinks that O'Reilly and Limbaugh are complete dolts and would be embarassed if they were active in this country (although I guess they already have David Cameron and Nick Griffin for that). When people look at American conservatism that is what they see.
