I agree. It was a very ill-advised remark. At the same time it could probably have been worse, but yeah.
Pretty much People make fun of all sorts of things, the subjects that the jokes are targeted towards do not feel offended and why should they? Isn't joking a sort of flattery sometimes? I mean people make fun of smart people. Just watch the big bang theory, I don't see any geniuses getting rallied up over a joke. Come on, scrutinizing someone because of an offhand remark is going way too far, it's ridiculous. Yes he is president, he is also human, he's not some god man that is perfect and making a joke is not wrong unless it is meant to purposely harm another which is not the case here. That being said people are over reacting over such juvenile things and just wasting their time getting upset for just a small little thing.
It's called foot in mouth disease, essentially open mouth, insert foot. Everyone is guilty of it, but not everyone gets called out for being momentarily stupid either.
Big deal. I agree it was one extremely stupid remark, but this is one gaffe compared to the thousands our idiot-in-chief George Bush made over the last 8 years. Instead of over analyzing a statement our president made that was inappropriate, why don't we focus on the economy and all the other things that are far more important than that one little mistake? Seriously. I worked with a special olympics team in school, totally respect people with disabilities, but I still think this hubbub has gone too far. If mentally disabled people can make fun of themselves (the ringer) than I think they can understand Obama didn't mean any harm by his rather foolish remark.
I think it's just one big liberal ploy to take our minds off of the economy. Bunch of fuckin' scheming Bolshevists.
It was stupid of Obama to say something like that. I can understand that it could have easily been a slip of tongue but he should be careful with these stuff. He's the President of the US, every word he says should be carefully crafted. On a completely different note, it was funny how he completely froze for a second when asked about the kind of dog he chose for the family
Isn't it the Republican/Conservative's side to over analyze everything the President says? Just like you guys got to the last 8 years.
My stance on Obama's Special Olympics comment: Hell, he could have said a lot worse. At least he didn't say that people with mental disabilities shouldn't be considered United States citizens. A certain former president of ours (hint: "Read my lips: No new taxes.") once uttered this lovely little gem about atheists: "No, I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic. This is one nation under God." He didn't catch much criticism for that one though. Know why? He didn't say it on national television. Obama apologized for his comment, our atheist-hating buddy above never did. Obama has invited Special Olympics athletes to the White House. "Father of the Shrub" probably would have shot an atheist dead if he found out there was one in the White House. And once again, it's become all too apparent that some people are hell-bent on politically-correcting this country right back to the stone age.
Exactly, we've been dealing with this in my country too. Whatever you say to a person of colour here, that they don't agree with, suddenly gives them the right to call you a racist... it's ridiculous. What Obama said was insensitive, but it was on Jay Leno, it shows he didn't have the whole conversation rigged and prepared in advance. Shows he's still a human being. True, that's what happened and is going to happen. Which is too bad, because they should work together.

Wow, and this is coming from a President who has an Ipod full of music...most I'm sure he hasn't purchased. This is probably the first time I've strongly disagreed with our current President. I hope to god it's one of the last and not the start of a trend.
It would be the second time for me, I disagreed with the DTV transition delay While I disagree with him on this, I still agree with him on the more pressing issues that matter, like the economy and our two wars. This one isn't a major issue.
