Take your own advice. This is the last I want to hear about this bullshit in this thread. It's gone on long enough, you've said your views...now lets be done with it.
So they'll keep on wiretapping, pretty much. Why? Imo, the government does not have to listen in and/or watch the general public.
Does anyone know if they've ever actually foiled a terrorist plot due to this wiretapping? Because to me it seems like an excuse to expand the government's power by taking advantage of a frightened populace.
Nope. Because if they had been listening to actual terrorists plots, I would assume Bank Robberies, Illegal downloading ect ect all follow down the catagory of "Not a threat" list. So pretty much, they haven't. Not one person., and it is an excuse that people are buying into. Aside the fact that they give up abit of your rights to privacy for your "protection".
If your profile is correct, it says you are from Canada. I was under the impression you had a different government then?
Yeah, I used "our" liberally . It isn't actually my freedoms they trade away, but they do set a bad example which I do fear other countries could follow. I was just meaning to say the government shouldn't be able to trade off the freedom of it's citizens in general.
Apprently, everyone else thinks so, and sadly, will give up rights for protection. And you're not giving up any right, aren't you from canada?
I really hope Harper doesn't follow the States lead . But even with the government spying, I must say I feel safer that it is Obama spying now not Bush . EDIT: For the record, while I may be coming off as critical, I don't actually dislike America. I think it is a great country, just dislike some of the government. Patriotism is having a "lover's quarrel" with your country and all that . Though America is not my country, so the metaphor can only go so far I guess.
I don't feel any safer with anyone spying on me. Would you feel safer if a police cop could spy on your kids? From the light in your house, to the phonecalls, internet websites, email, ect. Harr harr.
I apologize, I fully knew that, just a dumb mistake. Watching too much Bill Maher I guess, I hope no one was offended. I edited my original post so not so many have to read it.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/28/obama-im-confident-stimul_n_161654.html Well the stimulus has passed the house. All it needs to do is clear the senate and it'll be official. I just hope it works.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28896344/ The House has also defeated a bill passed by the Senate that would have delayed the digital television transition from February 17th to June 12th. The members of Julien-K are probably breathing a sigh of relief.
