I totally agree! OMG! Good Charlotte is my inspiration for exactly the same reason you stated! Ever since Good Charlotte released their latest AWESOME album, about the crap they had to go through in their childhood (as you said), i've wanted to be just like them! Wait, Good Charlotte talks about "Life Styles of the Rich & Famous", I don't think my life is that bad...but i'm sure i'll be clinically depressed when I make my first million, just like Good Charlotte. I don't mean to mock you, I was just making a point about my opinion. I totally respect you when you want to say that they are not posers, and in reality, I do enjoy rocking out to some of their music, even the latest stuff, it is quite catchy and entertaining, but IMO, it is poserific. A punk bad with "crap" in their life talking about "Life Styles of the Rich & Famous"? Come on...
So Good Charlotte are posers for writing about the #### they went through in their past and writing about what they want to write about? Doesn't make every other rock band posers too? A lot of their songs (the non-singles) have meaningful lyrics. The Young And The Hopeless is a really good album, in my opinion.
Name another band that you might believe this to be true in...then I'll see if they're worth defending or not... It's too vague to just say that there are other 'posers' out there, because, just like GC, there are! ( my opinion )
I didn't say it was stupid to write about sh*t you went through...duh, everyone does that; that's what music's about. But the whole, my daddy left me, wah, let me write a song about it, is getting annoying...I guess. Look, I just hate how they front they're hard. They're not.
What? We're talking about stuff that Jawknee just mentioned: Linkin Park = Writes truthful lyrics that are quite universal, and don't try to be "punk" or "underground". Staind = Great, original music and sound. I've never seen these guys try writing their music to classify what genre they belong too. Adema = Drugs, alcohol, broken families and trust, big deal. Atleast they're not coming in their videos with other rappers and gansters, and sporting other bands like walking bill boards. They're a great band also. Taproot = Honestly, i've only heard one of their songs ( "Poem" ), but their video was decent and honest, true and original.
So I guess The Ataris and Finch and all those other punk bands are posers, too, huh? They write about how their fathers left them. That's like the basis of punk rock. Punk rock is about real stuff and not made-up scenarios.
Yeah, GC seem to have a great time in their videos, making it seem like the so-called "troubles" they went through and write about aren't real at all. If it's real drama you write about, you'll express it in your videos and stuff. Get me?
Not all the time. Good Charlotte does their videos how they want to just like Linkin Park does theirs the way they want to. There's no law that says "You have to make a video that reflects the lyrics of your song."
Don't get caught up on every single word, it will only lengthen an unnessecary discussion. I'm sure The Ataris found a better way to express "Their father's leaving them", then singing to a POP chorus sporting every possible outfit you can buy on a millionaire's credit card from both Hot Topic and Target combined in a video that looked like it was directed by the N*Sync choreographer. My opinion.
Well, it would help me believe them a lot more if they'd express themselves better in their videos, trust me. That's a big reason why I can't stand them - their videos suck. All I see in their videos is MADE. AAAHH!! I know Linkin Park have their clothing sponsors...but I dunno...it's less apparent, I guess. Look everyone...we all have our own opinions and right now we're really butting heads. Can't we all just get along?
Actually The Ataris come right out and say "I know what it's like to grow up without a father." I will admit that Good Charlotte could go to writing school, but I don't really feel they're posers. They do what they want to do. Edit: I also don't think they're pop. Does pop have driving guitars? Nope.
No! Screw you all! GC can just go tour with N*Sync for all I care, but you shut up Jawknee! I'll be bitter whenever I dayam well please! lol, jk. I'm sure we all know this is just a discussion, and nothing more. I'm not mad, is anyone else?
I'm not mad, I just don't want anyone else to be mad. At least, myself, Casey, and Elie are giving reasons why we feel their posers; we're not going: GC ARE POSERS! THEY SUCK! I don't feel we're being ignorant.
If you can't write, what in the sam-hill are you doing in this business? You're obviously nothing more than an image if you can't write (and you can't tell me that their singing is "top-of-the-line"). If they want to "do what they want to do", they should just get their own show and be funny there.

[/b][/quote] Just because you can't write doesn't mean you don't have a place making music that people can enjoy. Look at limpbizkit. Granted Fred can write really good when he wants to, but almost none of their songs have any kind of lyrical impact. You know what I mean?

Will, I know what you're trying to say...it's just not sinking into me.

I've listened through Significant Other and Chocolate Starfish... a few times and there's only like, 3 songs on each album that have any kind of lyrical impact on you. I don't know what you're talking about, unless Fred paid you to say that. Kidding.

Alot of Limp's mainstream stuff is actually deep as well, if you step back and take more than just two seconds to look at it. "Break Stuff", that's more than just 10 "F" words, it's a song about the ups and downs of a day, and imagery portraying a "life time". I don't care if you're Ernest Hemmingway, you're not gonna get any underlying meaning from "Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous", period.
