Would you consider the Distillers pop-punk?
I thought these were emo.
I don't know... I guess it depends on what your definition of pop-punk is. I think they are but I guess I could be wrong.
Yeah it depends. I was only curious because Brand New, Starting Line and AAR don't seem to have any punk elements in it. I always thought of them as emo or pop-rock. :wth: Oh well.
Do you consider The Distillers actual punk? My definition of pop punk = pop(ular) punk.
Hmm. Well if pop-punk is just punk that's popular, then Rancid are my favorite pop-punk band. But by that definition, are Simple Plan pop-punk? Wouldn't they just be plain pop? And what about the Starting Line? They aren't really that popular. I always considered pop-punk radio-friendly punk-influenced music, al-la Green Day type bands. But, when it comes down to it, this post is pretty useless because it none of it really matters
Pop-punk = popular punk Or Music fused with elements of pop and punk. Simple Plan are very pop but I don't think they're just pop. They've obviously been influenced by great punk artists and even did a great live cover of "American Jesus" by Bad Religion. Rancid IMO is more punk than pop. They might not be straight punk but it seems a bit weird to shove them in the same category as SP or Blink 182. :wth:
Hilary Duff
You hear guitars in millions of pop bands. The difference is, pop artists don't usually play their own guitar and someone like Hilary Duff obviously has no punk influence whatsoever. Imagine her doing a NOFX cover? I don't think so.
