From what I've heard, Ryan and Jon are going to finish up this newest album, the Blink tour, and their own tour that they've got planned. Then they're going off and doing their thing. To be honest, it's a shock, but it's not unexpected. These things happen. Bands lose members and gain members all the time. Paramore just got another guitarist, I thought.
With Paramore it's different, though. If they lost one of their core members (Hayley, Josh, and maybe Zac) it would probably have a big impact on them, but they haven't. On the other hand, in Ryan PATD have lost someone who seemed to have a lot of influence over the writing and recording of their music.
This sucks. I'm sure Ryan was behind their transformation on their spectacular second album, so this pretty much kills PATD for me, because their old stuff sounds kinda whiny now. I do hope their new project is like Pretty. Odd., an evolution of it perhaps. Brendan will have to take the lead now and prove that he can be half as good.
It just sounds like something from their first album to me. Hopefully they will actually progress instead of just regressing back to what they were originally doing.
Their first album is one of my most listened to albums of all time...I would be very pleased for something else in that vein. I'm excited now, to say the least. EDIT: I did really enjoy the lyrics on Fever though, so I hope Brendon and Co. can step up to the plate there. Also, that song does sound a bit too FoBish for me, but I can still hope
So Panic become a pop punk band, and Ryan starts a 60s pop band? That's pretty boring. I never listened to them anyway i guess.
In the vein that it's a complete rip off? The demo sucks horribly. They sound exactly like FOB now which is why I praised the direction they went for Pretty. Odd. It was unique and it was fun. Now they sound like FOB lite.
They sounded like Fall Out Boy before they changed their sound. So I'm not going to bash them and sound all shocked and surprised at this demo.
I just am bummed you know? I know Ryan was probably the reason for the change, but after the amazing Pretty. Odd. I had such high hopes. They're capable of so much more.
To me it sounds about as much like Fall Out Boy as Fever did, which is to say it sounds noticably like them but I don't know about an actual rip off. But yeah, if the whole album sounds like this it will just be an almost total regression to me.
Without trying to sound like too big of a hater...hasn't their entire career been derivative of Fall Out Boy?
