I love A Thousand Suns, I've listened to it constantly since it's release, and there's very little I can say against it. It's one of my favorite albums ever, and I think the songs are so diverse and detailed that there's constantly something new I'm finding with each listen. That said, I still hold Meteora as my favorite album. I don't know if I would say old LP tops new LP for me, but Breaking The Habit was just...gold. Meteora is one of the very few album I can and usually will listen to from start to finish, and never get bored with any of the tracks. Hybrid Theory has a lot I really like as well. Papercut, Points of Authority, Pushing Me Away, and of course, In The End. I like every song on A Thousand Suns, but I can never and will never stop listening to LP's first two albums. It's what made me a fan. Minutes To Midnight is another story. I don't know which era this album falls into. I doubt LP will ever make an album like this again, so I can't really put it in the "new" era. Regardless, it was a very good album. My least favorite, mind you, but I still enjoy listening to it (except a few songs - Shadow of the Day, In Between).
Honestly I to some degree lean toward old because of nostalgia, and MTM and recently ATS have grown on me. I haven't voted yet, but I'm leaning just slightly old.
That's what makes this a hard decision. ATS is clearly their best effort IMO, but I agree a lot with what Blackout said.
Finally voted (after much contemplation) and had to go with old. The energy in those songs still gets me to this day, and when they're played live they can still be absolutely great. Comparing songs like Papercut, One Step Closer, and Pushing Me Away to Bleed It Out, In Between, and Given Up, older wins
But you didn't compare them to When They Come For Me, Waiting For The End, The Catalyst, Hands Held High, and In Pieces? Haha you compared Papercut and One Step Closer to In Between that just wasn't fair. Especially in terms of energy.
Nick has a point. TC vs. Papercut? TC wins OSC vs. WFTE? WFTE wins Pushing Me Away vs. The Messenger? That's debatable but you get the point.
My album ranking would go like A Thousand Suns>Hybrid Theory>Meteora>Minutes to Midnight right now, so I don't know .
I love HT and Meteora, but Im not really a huge fan of M2M... ATS is incredible! So I have to go with new because it hits you harder in the chest, in a good way. Still love the old stuff though!
The older stuff def gets more energy off of it! I went to the Atlanta concert this past weekend, and when something off the old albums played, everyone lost it! But the new stuff is very deep. Everyone was waving their hands... so yes, the old stuff has a lot more energy but thats because of the metal rock in the songs.
Old. Old #Heavy. Old more then anything else I can stand by in my lifetime. Not even that I dislike the new stuff (Love ATS....not a m2m fan at all), I just absolutely love HT, Meteora, Reanimation, The old demos/B-sides, and CC more then any music on this planet. I love what they were back then, even before Hybrid Theory. The EP was so raw and true. They were making what they wanted to with the style they wanted to. They were so energetic. Nowadays, they may be branching into other creative musical ventures, but it's just not as good to me. Listening to Step Up makes me long for that style. That's what LP was.
as much as i love the new songs and all im way more in love with the much more older songs they are just classic but im sure waiting for the end and the others will become classics too
HT > ATS > Meteora > M2M I voted old because M2M is considered the new phase, I liked M2M, then ATS came out and made M2M look like shit but it was a necessary stepping stone in the band's progression. The only songs I love off M2M are In Between, In Pieces, and Hands Held High.
