I do like Hybrid Theory and Meteora very much but it's about time LP did something different. I'm really excited for ATS!
This poll is so unfair ...nothing can mess with Meteora atleast for me. That album isnt just music its history...a part of me its santimental stuff. The new stuff is great too i really like how the music changed as i was growing and changing myself. This is the band , the music i will never forget and someday my kids will laugh at me for listening to these "Oldies"
Really in my opinion there best songs ever is: Breaking the Habit vs TLTGYA. And if they choose to keep there old style, they would never make an epic song as TLTGYA. But even with there newer stuff(ATS) they might make a song as epic as BTH. So i'l say new
^ This. I love "Hybrid Theory" ... but it's been done. "Meteora" aside, I don't need another album like that. I'll always be excited for new stuff from the band - they're always gonna sound like Linkin Park, that's what I love them for. They've always been about pushing the envelope and not confining themselves to a certain genre. This is a band that'll always have something new and fresh to offer and that's exciting.
Waaaaaay back when i was a young whippersnapper, LP, though they were classified as Nu Metal, they stood out with a unique flavor of their own when compared with their brother bands in the genre. They had a strong identity, strong goals, and they crafted something that was uniquely LP. Now I'm not one of those "LP should cater to the fans of the past" people, but I'm still waiting for a new sound. While MTM was entertaining and it had their masterpiece TLTGYA, the bulk of the album sounded like songs from other bands, and its now shelved while I still have HT and Meteora in play. After hearing The Catalyst though, LP may have finally crafted a new sound of their own. TC is something totally fresh and I'm on board for this.
I agree with a lot of what Kathy said. Linkin Park were a rock band when they first started out, but they were so unique they stood out when compared to other traditional rock bands. The style of rapping Mike used combined with Chester's melodic and aggressive singing was perfect when laid on top of heavy guitars and Joe's scratching. Looking back, it's no wonder I became as dedicated a fan as I did (and still completely am). There was something really edgy about them when they released Hybrid Theory, that WAS the Linkin Park sound. Meteora, in my opinion, surpassed this with newer and more innovative sounds and beats. Electric strings like in Faint's intro? Fucking awesome. And while it's good that they mastered this nu-metal sound, I'm glad they've moved on. However, as stated above, Minutes To Midnight does not have a Linkin Park feel. That's not to say some of the songs aren't good (Bleed It Out, What I've done, The Little Things Give You Away), it's just that it's much too generic. I think it was the perfect way for them to begin expanding, but in no way was it perfected. From what I've heard so far, I believe A Thousand Suns will be THE new Linkin Park sound. Very uptempo, electronic, and beat-driven. They've never been a band to mold in with conventional sounds, and that's what I love about them. The Catalyst quickly became one of my favorite songs, more than I can say about any of the M2M songs. I think ATS will definitely put Linkin Park in a good spot with their music again, a real defining sound just like they wanted. That said, at the moment I have to give this vote to their old material. However, I'm absolutely loving the direction they're taking with ATS, and will probably have to change my vote after its release.
I love all of Linkin Park, except Collision Course and Reanimation. Those are decent but my least favorites.
I voted on newer LP for the simple fact I think it showcases Mike's beautiful voice. As much as I like to hear him rap I love to hear him sing. And I think the lyrics are more mature and have more of a real sound to them.
I have to go with old LP. I think it had the perfect blend of everyone in the group, it felt like no one was absent. It was also the perfect blend of sound and lyrics, they also use to have a energy that no one can explain, it was just a energy that everyone could connect to(i think that it is missing now). I also like there new stuff. The Catalyst is one of my favs along with WFTE and Iridescent. But now i dont like how everything is so experimental and dragged out. I wish they went on the path of breaking the habit or somewhere I belong or numb. Somewhere I belong I think was a break away from the normal formula and the beginning is amazing(so much emotion coming from it). BTH was a game changer, it was still different from everything else but you could still tell it was LP, with excellent lyrics and sound. Numb was much like BTH when it came to sound change. I think it was one of there best because I dont think there is one person in the world who doesnt relate to this song at some point. When I heard about MTM I hoped that LP would go for the change to songs like these 3. On ATS i like the songs but am angry about the lyrics. They dont pull you in IMO, to me they dont stay on point(i mean you dont know exactly what there talking about) I could go on and on but ill stop now....
I like both, but I think differentiating between two eras is a little all-inclusive. A Thousand Suns doesn't sound anything like Minutes to Midnight, and while Meteora followed the same kind of format as Hybrid Theory, the sound was quite a bit different.
Yes, I agree with you. ATS for me is the big brother of Reanimation, then they both come from two different era. MTM cannot be put in any of those era, like you said it doesn't sound anything like ATS (and songs like Given up or no more sorrow make me think more of old LP than new). HT and Meteora cannot be separated imo and I love both of them. There was the CC area which like MTM don't really fit anywhere. The thing is, beside some songs of MTM - LP always had a diverse range of sounds, so diverse it was hard to put them anywhere. I always said LP has an electronic sounds - yet not a lot of people would have said. I think Reanimation showed what the guys were capable of in terms of producing and melting sounds - people forget fast where they come from. i remember during LIT - Mike and phoenix playing with sounds and making like an 'electro' numb remix (still waiting for the official release btw). Anyway, I think there is very good and some bad things in both of the eras, and splitting LP history in two parts is forgetting what they always were since the beginning.
