Yeah I watched the Year Zero thing from day one when My Violent Heart was "leaked" on Valentine's day, people went crazy over all that shit. It was as if every little thing that happened had to be some kind of clue, it got kind of ridiculous. Even with the release leading up to Ghosts and The Slip afterward people seemed to be trying to find clues in the photo updates.
Trent Reznor recently worked on the score for David Fincher's (Fight Club, Benjamin Button) new film, The Social Network. Check out the 5 track sampler from the score http://nullco.com/TSN
I listened to it earlier today. Trent and Atticus do some amazing things. Let's hope for more How To Destroy Angels and NIN stuff soon.
Update on the Year Zero series for HBO: http://blogs.ocweekly.com/heardmentality/radio-on-tv/trent-reznor-developing-sci-fi/
The whole social network soundtrack is out as well, I haven't really felt like listening to it quite yet - maybe when it gets a bit later. Anyone listened?
I didn't know the whole one was out. I got the 5 track sample and it is really sick. Trent and Atticus never make anything short of amazing.
re: Year Zero TV series I'll believe it when I see it. I don't think it will happen, but I'd LOVE to be proven wrong. re: The Social Network soundtrack I'm planning on listening to it tomorrow on my day off. I hear it's good, but like any score, it's better with the movie. Which I desperately want to see as well. But, it's TR and Atticus, so, of course I'm going to listen to the entire soundtrack anyways. In other news, I'm still pretty bummed about the Fragile deluxe edition rerelease being pushed back. That's old news but I'm just now starting to get depressed over it. I mention this because in my process of moving, I went through all of my vinyl and rediscovered the Fragile vinyl. It's beautiful. Funny enough, the only main albums I don't have on vinyl by NIN is their most iconic (Downward Spiral) and Year Zero. And Broken/Fixed, but that doesn't count.
The whole soundtrack is amazing, very Ghosts-esque - I think a couple Ghosts tracks were reused and changed up a bit actually, though I couldn't really pick which ones. Records are waaaayyy too expensive in Australia, need to stick some money on that Card thing I have and order heaps of shit in.
I just ran across an article that Reznor is going to be working on an HBO mini-series that's based on the Year Zero album. Pretty interesting. I wonder how it'll turn out. Here's the link to the article: Here
'Year Zero" is my favourite Nine Inch Nails album, along with "The Downward Spiral", so I'm very excited about the idea of the TV series finally in the works.
I can never decide my favorite. Every full length album has something different but equally as spectacular compared to the others. I might have to vote for The Fragile just out of raw track time. Wins by default.
I like "The Fragile" but a few of the songs on it come across as filler to me. :/ "Still" is awesome, but I'm talking full-length albums.
I can't stand Starfuckers Inc. It just seems ridiculous for a Trent Reznor song. Everything else is amazing imo. Disc 1 is full of pure sex.
No different than "Closer", in my opinion. It seems every album has that one song that's repeated ad naseum, to where i want to vomit when I hear it. PHM has Head Like A Hole, TDS has Closer, TF has Starfuckers, WT has The Hand That Feeds, YZ has Survivalism. I know all of those songs were basically "the" singles for the respective albums, and they were chosen for a reason, but, goddamn. Still. They blow. I don't know what my point is, really. I like the video, but 1999-2002 was such an odd period in the history of NIN. I guess it's comparable to Manson's whole "Mechanical Animals" era. It was a change of styles, visually. You had shit like Starfuckers and Deep, and everyone looking like complete drug addicts on stage. It was weird. Then Trent overdosing in Tokyo, or wherever. And it never came out until like, 2005. Haha.
And now he has short hair, he's bulked up, and he's married to a really hot and talented chick. Plus he gets to make music with her and he's still at the top of his game. I'd say his life took a turn for the better.
