I honeslty can't understand how it is that I have not once in my life heard them on the radio, or seen a video on tv or anything. They deserve so much more.
Well I don't have pay TV of any sort, so the video's I see are limited, but I've never seen them on any of our 5 or so weekend video shows.
well, I guess NiN is kinda...underground, cause no-one I know really knows them...I've introduced most of my friends to them.
Im trying to introduce my friends to them, but they're extremely stubborn, and get sick of me raving on about how amazing NIN are
The music scene nowadays is so sad. It's so weird walking into my sister's high school and seeing people who have NEVER heard of Nine Inch Nails... or many other of the greats from the 90s and earlier. It's the Fall Out Boy Generation... *sigh*
Seriously. When the most popular song that people know by NIN is Closer, and it's only because it was referenced in that damned Limp Bizkit song a while back, things are going wrong. When Marilyn Manson is known only for his cover songs, music is dead. When people don't even KNOW that Personal Jesus and Tainted Love were cover songs, I've given up entirely. When kids in high school never noticed that Dave Grohl used to drum for Nirvana, when people only just NOW realize that John Frusciante is a godly guitarist, when kids don't know the difference between hip-hop and rap, and finally when people actually BELIEVED that NIN was dead when the LIVE line-up was disbanded (because nobody seems to know that NIN = Trent anymore), I have totally given up on our generation all together.
I don't know the difference between hip-hop and rap... But I know Trent...I know that tainted love and personal jesus are cover songs... All in all, I agree whole-heartedly...if people know NiN but think NiN's dead...yeah..that's just wrong...
I was just gonna say that. I don't really respect that genre much, but I have the Depeche Mode Greatest Hits CD (impulse buy, though "Never Let Me Down Again"'s a cool track) and I know that "Tainted Love" is by Soft Cell, so I guess I'm in a pretty good position. its weird though, whenever I reference something (like my brother knows I like LP, he hates them) I'd say man John Frusciante's hella cool and my brother would be like "who's that?" and I'd be like "the guitarist--" and he'd cut me off and be like "linkin park? yeah that's what I thought." he doesn't understand how people know the names of band members. but hey, he knows the names of directors and actors and I don't see a reason to. though his reasoning for that is "you never really care who directed a movie until you realize that all the movies you like are from the same guy."
http://nin.com/ I guess Trent knew Paul Raven. I wonder what the "exciting news likely to arrive tomorrow" is.
i didnt donate any money because im a poor college kid, but if saul opens for nin again, or if saul has his own show, im on that like a fat kid on cake. EDIT- Niggy Saul is amazing even in his explanation: The asterisks are for censorship, but the word is left to gain the full poetic verse of Saul's announcement.
