Even for someone who usually despises football, this was pretty exciting to watch! Of course it helps that it was my own country squashing Spain :kappa: I might even watch the next match now.

Today was a great day of football. Chile vs Australia was quite exciting too..! Beausejour at the end with the goal that killed the game but I thought AUS could've done a bit more.

I agree with the tweets saying this WC is already better than the last. Despite controversy and fuckups, it's been great football.

Also, there was a nice display of goal-line tech at the Chile game where the aussie player cleared off the line. Better late than ever for tech in football.

Something still needs to be done about penalty and offside calls though.

Great game for Colombia, joyful debut after being absent for 16 years. Solid on all their lines, gave the ball to Greece on the 2nd half but the Greeks were totally ineffective up front, except for a couple of dangerous chances, with one of them hitting the crossbar. James, Cuadrado, Yepes and Armero standouts, and a couple of great saves from David Ospina. Impressive turnout, more than 40,000 colombians made the travel to the neighbour country to cheer for their Selección.

EDIT 1: UPSET! Costa Rica has stunned Uruguay on their World Cup debut! Charruas had a strong start, keeping possession of the ball and making threatening chances with their powerful strikeforce Cavani and 'Cebolla' Rodríguez. While Uruguay took the lead via a Cavani penalty, celestes could not cope with Costa Rica's aerial play, which doomed them to have their winning position turned upside down. Joel Campbell seized his stature as CRC's most influyent player on the pitch and shortly after Duarte took the lead for the Ticos via a headed free kick. Uruguay showed the same weaknesses they display during qualifying and could not shake off their anxiety. Now Uruguay must watch closely the England v. Italy because they have to play both of them next in order to qualify.

Shocking defeat for Uruguay..! I was a bit disappointed but I was glad Tabarez didn't risk Suarez for this game. They are going to need him full-form for the clashes against England and Italy.

    Updated my post above, btw.

Thanks for posting that! Costa Rica really delivered a surprise, the team's looking strong and too bad for Uruguay, this was definitely not their best match.

I think it's done for Uruguay now :(

Can't understand why Suarez didn't get in the match when Costa Rica scored the first 2 goals.

They should have risked in my opinion, 'cause that was a match they should have won.

I'd love to see them going through, but I doubt they will win both matches now.

I was hoping England would win that game. I went to sleep after the first half because I couldn't stay awake anymore. Those two goals by the end of the first half made me excited enough to stay until the end of it.

Suarez is coming back from an injury, and I bet Tabarez didn't sub him on because he needs him on full force against Italy and England. But one thing we know for sure is that Uruguay should have won this game.

? I only said they SHOULD, because it was the "easier" of the three and had easily the better squad.
