Yes, but the question is if Kid Rock were nu-metal, which he is not. And, I have heard 3 Doors Down, 30 Seconds to Mars, Cold, Default, and Hoobastank classified as nu-metal numerous times. Especially 30 Seconds to Mars and Hoobastank. And, tell me why Sevendust is not metal. Please, explain that to me. They've been played on Headbanger's Ball and Uranium a ton of times, but they're not metal... riiiiight. Please, just explain how Sevendust isn't metal. They're not rock, they're metal. Your last part really doesn't dispute my claim at all, either. EDIT: Google search for "Sevendust Metal": http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-...G=Google+Search Google search for "Hoobastank Nu-Metal": http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=...tal&btnG=Search Google search for "30 Seconds to Mars Nu-Metal": http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=...tal&btnG=Search Google search for "Cold Nu-Metal": http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=...tal&btnG=Search Google search for "3 Doors Down Nu-Metal": http://www.google.com/search?q=3+Doors+Dow...8&start=10&sa=N There, now you've heard of Hoobastank, 30 Seconds to Mars, Cold and 3 Doors Down being called nu-metal I couldn't find "Default Nu-Metal" because of the common word used for their band name. Sevendust sure had quite a lot of metal sites calling them metal (And a few calling them nu-metal, as I said)
Sorry mate, any metal magazine that respects themselves has the names of three bands next to the term NWOSDM (new wave of swedish death metal): At the gates, Dark Tranquillity and In flames. If you only listen to the soft singles they release, try hearing their first stuff. Heavy as hell, and no toher genre includes Anders' brutal vocals.
Yeah the new Swedish Death Metal is being classified as 'Melodic' Death Metal or Gothenberg Metal. And you failed to mention the greatest Melodic death metal band: OPETH As for nu-metal, its a BS genre as Will said, but it seems most bands lumped into that category make very generic and overused sounds that can appeal to the masses. Some bands that sound the same or are very generic....: 3 Doors Down Nickelback Theory of A Deadman Default Seether Saliva Switchfoot Limp Bizkit (esp. Chocalate Starfish and RMV) Korn (even though their debut was decent) Chevelle Disturbed Hoobastank (Esp. their first album) Linkin Park (METEORA) Can we add to the list?
by your logic Staind is metal too. Godsmack is on the MTV2 Headbanger's Ball comp. CD, does that mean they're metal?
Staind used to be metal with their first album and indie releases. Godsmack I would say is metal, yes. Most people would classify them as the same. Perhaps you can call them hard rock, but I think that'd be a stretch.
I think calling Godsmack metal is a stretch, but it all comes down to personal opinion I guess. I classify bands by what I think, not by what google, MTV/2, magazines, etc. say they are. It's all opinion. I'm going to make a new genre of metal. Mainstream Metal.
Well of course Godsmack isn't a heavy metal band or anything, but I would say they're definitely mainstream metal (as your new genre will put them in, I'm guessing ), as with Disturbed.
By your claim, some anonymous person could just haul out and call britney spears Nu-metal and you'd buy it.
I would say it is, considering that I gave what I supposed I'd classify as nu-metal, why I hate the label, how I think no bands fit the nu-metal label, etc. Obviously you didn't read my posts well enough.
Oh well, sorry, i did read what you said but i guess i took it the wrong way. anyway look at this. This is why Nu-metal shouldnt exist (as a genre) because of people that do things like this
Ha, no problem... I didn't mean to offend you in any way, either, just thought that your comment didn't fit with anything that I said. Like I said, though.... the nu-metal genre shouldn't exist. I prefer simpler labels, like "Alternative", "Rock", and "Metal"... things like that.
yeah, some of them are funny lol but most people that like these supposed Nu-Metal bands listen to Death Metal as well. Im not saying most Hoobastank fans or anything (hoobastank shouldnt even be considered remotely close to metal) but bands like Static-X and Korn or Slipknot.

After reading this is discovered I am a nu metal freak. But all nu metal really is, is a genre that rock bands are instantly put into when they appeal to a mainstream audience
Oh. My. God. enfestid... by your logic, any band that gets on Headbanger's Ball is metal, which is the most untrue statement I've ever heard. Think about it: Cold, metal? HAHAHA, yeah right. Godsmack, metal? HAHAHA, yeah right. Staind, metal? HAHAHA, yeah right. Sevendust, metal? HAHAHA, yeah right. To me, a straight-up metal band is Mudvanye. Godsmack, Staind, Sevendust, and Cold are NOWHERE NEAR as heavy as Mudvayne. Default nü-metal? Hoobastank nü-metal? What the #### are you smoking? Default is lite rock/alternative, and Hoobastank are punk rock with a hard rock edge. That's not even close to nü-metal. And A Perfect Circle and 30 Seconds To Mars are progressive rock, NOT nü-metal. 12 Stones, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle... they aren't nü-metal, either. They're hard rock. Disturbed, Evanescence, Taproot, hard rock. "Nü-metal" technically means "new metal." Just because a band comes out and plays rock does NOT make them nü-metal. That's like saying In Flames' new album is nü-metal just because it is "newer than their old albums."
Andrew is teh pwnage, plain and simple. And those 76 Rules of Nu-Metal:
Yeah, those rules are pretty funny. I didn't read all of them, but there is one that is very true. All nu-metal bands have to say that they are most inspired by Black Sabbath
