Oh, I've come to terms with the fact that hip hop artists (and I use that term loosely because I don't think much of what they do is art) ruin just about anything they touch. But to ruin Chester's once-in-a-lifetime chance to sing one of the best songs of all time with THE Sir Paul McCartney, that's just....hell, I don't even know if words can describe what it is. If he had one single functioning brain cell, he would've known to back off and let Yesterday be sung the way it was meant to be sung.

Yeah but I'd figure that it would seem awkward for Jay-Z to just stand there and do nothing while the two were singing. Of course he can just back off somewhere else away from the stage momentarily.

Jay-Z didn't make the Grey Album.

Danger Mouse mashed it up. He took The White Album and The Black Album and mashed it up.

Neither the Beatles nor Jay Z had any idea, until EMI ordered a cease and desist on Danger Mouse.

Uh-huh. And I guess after Jay-Z chose LP to do Collision Course with, which helped the band win a grammy, he was just gonna step off the stage?

Niether Chester or Sir Paul seemed to have a problem with the performance anyway. This whole argument is nothing more than a storm in a teacup and not to mention completely off-topic. If Chester and Sir Paul were angry at Jay-Z for his role in the performance then perhaps it's a valid point. However it was a piece of music history seeing an iconic vocalist of the past, possibly the best vocalist of the present and a Hip-Hop icon share the same stage and I think that was something pretty special.

I think you need to choose your words more carefully in future Todd. You've have some strong beliefs which in a way is admirable, but Hip-Hop artists are artists whether you agree with that or not. Sure enough the majority don't know fuck all about playing an instrument etc. however in these modern times it's been proven time and time again that instruments aren't vital in modern music.

Saying that Hip-Hop artists aren't artists is not only disrespectful to them, but to those who listen to Hip-Hop. Perhaps in future if you don't have anything positive to contribute to the thread then maybe you shouldn't contribute to it at all.

Yes, but he could also be talking about the Grey Album, since that's where this whole mash-up bullshit started from.

Neither do I, because I think he's right: a collaboration with Jay-Z and Foo-Fighters doesn't sound like a good idea to me at all.

He doesn't even mention LP or whether or not he thinks a collaboration with Jay-Z was the right thing for them.

I just found it interesting, I have nothing against the Foo Fighters, I'm a big fan of theirs and saw them in concert last week and it was a very good show. LP > Foo tho :)

Foo Fighters aren't always that well respected either.

And the way Grohl put it made it seem as if he was implying that any rock band working with Jay-Z would be a bad thing, with whichever band being specifically at fault for anything bad about it... it's hard to word, haha. I'm sure he could have just said "We don't think a collaboration between us and a hip-hop artist would work that well" if he actually meant that. I'm probably wrong but the former is what he seemed to be implying, to me at least.

    I don't either.

Dave Grohl is one of the most talented musicians ever and I totally respect him. I saw Foo live 3 days ago and they kick fucking ass. Their live set owns LPs in a way, but I can't say that because I'd get attacked lol. They use no samples live...they play all their music and they do really well. At their show they had an acoustic stage and they did half rock and half acoustic...it was VERY impressive. LP is of course my life but I'm just saying, FF rock live and they rock hard. Dave is amazing. Don't hate on the Foo, they rule.

The point of the whole sampling thing is that LP actually use samples in their studio recordings that can't be reproduced just like that, so for them it's necessary to use them live, whereas the Foo Fighters don't :p
