You know, you're actually right. Sure, technically they aren't good, but as frontmen, they're fucking awesome.
I still haven't listened to Neighbourhoods but Tom Delonge's singing seems to have gotten a lot better anyway, at least on record. Not that he's a great singer by any means, but still.
It depends, really. I think with art in general it's probably better to produce something that's good for what it is than to produce something that's unique but also terrible. Yeah, I intend to. Their self-titled/untitled is by far their best album imo so that bodes well.
I agree 100%. She's great but nothing new, I own 21 and it got old pretty fast. On the other hand Raine Maida? I dunno how popular Our Lady Peace is outside of Canada but he has an amazing voice
I personally think his comments do hold some water. Pop music is made up of almost all dime dozen, cookie cutter singers and rock is becoming quite generic as well. While there a thousand good and unique lead singers to name, I think theres also a trend of generic-ism going on ( and yes I did just make up generic-ism XD)
Cedric from the Mars Volta/At The Drive-In. Very distinct voice, and that motherfucker has some pipes. Too bad about the whole Scientology thing, though.
Ugh, I did NOT want to know that. Still seems like a good dude though/great voice even on the first ATDI recordings.
Seems like it's because of his wife, maybe. Happened after he got married. Hey, if anything, the story telling on their albums will be a lot better, especially now, since he has a lot of fiction at his disposable for inspiration.
I don't care about technical ability. I never have and I probably never will. I'll take a distinct voice or an honest display of emotion over that any day. That's true, but what I was trying to get at was the "good singer" part in the original article. If everything was a carbon copy good singer, music would be bland. that's why there are certain singers I love listening to because when you hear them, you instantly recognize the unique sound in their voice. I wasn't trying to say that if a singer is unique, that doesn't make them good. That isn't true at all.
Disagree, yo. Maynard James Keenan has a distinguishable voice, a polarizing personality, and there are a shit-ton of vocalists who try to emulate his style.
i agree when it comes to bands and their vocals there are no good lead singers any more eg. tom delong has the pitch but he doesnt even sing to me it's more like saying words. chester bennington is from all ranges from screaming from soft to alternative, now chester has a voice when it comes to vocals
