Did anyone catch the Leafs vs. Habs game on Saturday? That was a thriller! O'Neill is my hero. And did anyone see Crosby's shootout goal in the Pitssburgh game on Thursday? That was awesome!
Crosby's got good technique, but I still stand by my claim that he'll be a more all-around-player than a goal scorer his entire career. Honestly, I don't see him getting more than 50 goals in more than a couple of seasons.
That's true. If you look at his stats from the QMJHL, he's usually had twice the assists that he has goals. The majority of his goals are well placed shots, not necessary Ovechkin-esque dangles. But man, can he pass. And good luck knocking him off the puck, he's got amazing balance. He will be more of an all-round player than a scorer, indeed.
Oh, Crosby's probably the best passer in the NHL right now. There are some guys that I would put ahead of him in the prime of their careers (Sakic, Yzerman, etc), but not many.
Crosby is such a clutch player. He's lived up to much of the hype. I can't wait for the Pittsburgh/Washington game next week. (Who would've thought I'd be saying that inthe summertime?)
Yeah, especially his overtime goal. That game misconduct call for diving was a bad one. Not as bad as the reffing in the Canucks-Kings game though. I can't believe that Ohlund got called for hooking twice. What division do you guys think is the toughest?
Northeast. I'm not just saying it becasue I'm a Toronto fan, but we're up against the unstoppable Senators, a fast Canadiens team that always finds a way to win in the third, and physical Boston team (currently struggling), and another fast team in Buffalo with alot of young talent. Toronto's not too shabby either.
I'd say Northwest for sure, and not just because I live in Vancouver. Detroit lost 3 in a row, all to teams in the Northwest Division (Canucks, Flames & Oilers). And when you look at Vancouver's standings (tied for 1st with Calgary in the NW), they've only won 4 against teams in the NW division. We've beaten every team we've played outside the NW division, except for the Kings.
I wouldn't put too much money into Detroit losing 3 games in a row. Of course I like them, but I'm tired of everyone saying Detroit's schedule was easy to begin with -- it doesn't matter who you're playing when you play the amount of teams they did in the first few weeks of the season. It was practically non-stop. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember Detroit having played 4 more games than Nashville (second to Detroit in central) at one point in the season. I Detroit's also beaten at least two of those teams before (the three in a row loses), maybe even all three of them, but I don't remember. That said, though, central definitely isn't the hardest division. Columbus and Chicago aren't as bad as everyone says they are, but they're still not good teams. I'll go with the Pacific or Atlantic divisions -- they're both pretty well-rounded divisions.
The Canucks have played the Red Wings twice, and we beat them both times (4-2 & 4-1). Red Wings have actually lost 4 games in a row (3-2 to the BLUES). I'm not so sure that either the Red Wings or the Habs are all that they're cracked up to be. The Capitals just beat them 5-1.
Did I not say "etc"? EDIT: Wow, Jiri Fischer (Red Wings) suffered a seizure in the game against the Panthers... that's horrible. He's such an amazing guy -- he works hard, and he truly cares about the community. I remember him helping out a girl who had cancer (and her family) an entire season -- from when he met her to when she died. He never wanted there to be much publicity about it, either.
Predators, actually. I saw footage of him slumping on the bench, I can't beleive this happened! Luckily, he's alright now and is stable. He was diagnosed with a heart abnormality during routine checkups by Red Wing doctors in the pre-season of 2002. He missed a few days practice, but didn't miss any games. He's very lucky that the medical staff for NHL teams are so top notch, becuas ethe Red Wings doctors brought him back to life. His heart was stopped! That's insane!
My fault, I always get "Predators" and "Panthers" mixed up. Yeah, that's crazy how they revived him... I'm surprised it was that bad. I remember when his heart problem was announced, but they never thought it was anything major.
Yeah, the wings arent all they're cracked up to be even though they are ahead of every team in the NHL by 2 points overall and were 12-1 at one point. They're just off their game after Legace got injured and everything. They'll be back on it soon enough.
I think it's more the fact that the schedule had them playing so many games in so little time. They played 4 more games than Nashville at one point... I think everyone's just tired, to be honest.
They still are on top with 32 points, which means that they obviously don't suck. Detroit had a really tough road trip.
