DBS was pretty good. I do like a couple of songs from DBS like Let down and Crawl back in. High rise EP was short, but it was decent. I expect a little more quality in this next album because they will have more time. High rise was created in like 1 week.
Deftones released an album in late 2012. After that, Chino Moreno released albums with two side projects and now Deftones are beginning to work on another album. So I wouldn't say it's impossible to continue DBS. However I don't see another album coming soon.
of course its not impossible to do both. it all depends on chester, and LP is a huge band, so it takes a lot of his time with touring and in studio. because unlike bands like STP, LP takes a loooooooong time to finish their work in studio. with STP he could write an full album in 2 months. LP takes 1 year to go from demos to the thousand of layers of sound in the finished songs
The biggest weakness in DBS was the overproduction. Linkin Park may be guilty of that in their own right, but this album was polished to the point that some of the songs lost their impact. The album just lacked any punch. I'd even go as far to say that Julien-K ruined the album with their contributions, because they added too many layers to songs that sounded better without them. I know that's a controversial opinion to some, but I would've rather heard an acoustic album then what we actually received. I haven't even listened to OOA in at least two years.
Well, the thing is, with regards to the way that album was initially described, J-K sounded like a great fit. I'm guessing that the album was initially going to be far more interesting than it ended up being.
Well a huge example of 'being more interesting originally' is the early version of My Suffering that was performed live prior to the album release. The demo version was infinitely more interesting than what happened on the CD. I've wished for the longest time that the demo version would leak out (along with other demos from that recording session) I can almost promise they'd be superior to the final product.
