Minimum: 2 short stanzas or 1 long stanza. Short being 8 or 10 lines, long being 18-20 lines.

That's a good question. If you edit your entry before the submission deadline, send me a Private Message, and I will delete your previous submission and you can submit me your revised work.

granted if you have a good vocabulary you can go far with a few words... but poetry isnt about saying alot with a few words... poetry is expressing yourself using words...

Its all in the poets style.. you cant confine art through rules.. If it is long, you have to be creative and find ways to capture the reader from start to finish.. and if its small, you have to find a way to keep the reader thinking beyond when the poem is finished.

If you are describing an event through emotions or an instant in time.. then the poem cant get very long because it will lose substance.. whereas if the poem had a storyline.. you only have so much room to develop yourself/character and the world/events that occur around it...

Alot of the greatest poets have poems that go as far as a few pages...

I am saying if you have a long poem, you probably have a lot to say. I know I don't have a be-all end-all opinion, but I have one nonetheless. In general, using many words to say few things can be boring (unless you are delving into an emotion. Than it can be good to use many ways to express a feeling).

Oh, damn. I had a poem all ready to submit and then my muse lit up. I still need to figure out which one to submit, and finish the second one.

Ha ha, tremulant had the same situation. He had to entries planned and had a hard time deciding which one he wanted to submit.

For those of you who do have more than one poem in mind for the competition, keep them. Submit the one you like the most. If you change your mind and wanted to submit another one of your choices before the deadline, PM me and I will remove your original entry and you will send your new entry to [email protected].

Thanks to all who are participating!

ATTENTION!: NEWLY ADDED RULE! WHEN YOU SUBMIT YOUR VOTE, EXPLAIN WHY YOU VOTED FOR THAT ENTRY. When the winners are posted, the reasons people gave for voting for them will be posted, but not the names of the people who voted.

I'm freaking out. My muse upped and died in the middle of my second choice, and I actually liked that poem.

You know, tremulant, if you actually did something to sabotage Mali's chances, I'd disqualify you and get Derek to warn you.

    But I know you're kidding. ^_^
