Though I don't care much for Carson Daly, he seemed to be a big reason why TRL was so popular in the late '90s and early '00s. Also, there's the whole fact that they almost never play rock on TRL anymore. I'm not sure how big an impact that fact has, but it's a big fact among a lot of people.
those points have a huge involvement I would think, but I also believe that it's because essentially, it's the same show for 60+ days while the same videos are being played before they get "retired"; maybe a handful coming into the top 10 and falling out. After several years of that, I'm sure even the brainless MTV followers will get tired of it and spend that hour doing/watching something better.
Didn't TRL start out playing a lot of rock music? Including Korn and Marilyn Manson? MTV blows and people aren't watching it for the music videos, they're watching it for Laguna Beach or some other dumb show that's blown completely out of proportion and made to be something amazing when it's all the same bullshit. The way they're going, they're just going to be like Fox Reality and change their name to RTV. Reality Television.
It's becoming like G4 and TechTV. They probably would change the name, but it's MTV, and that name is big.
I really wouldn't mind if TRL was taken off the air. But I think it's just the lack of variety that led to this. Plus, MTV has just about trashed the musical nature it intended when it was created. So eventually, if a change isn't made, all of the programs that have anything to do with music will just be trashed and replaced with silly reality shows and the like.
I never really understood why there was no more rock on TRL while they have Direct Effect. Anyway, I could care less if they axed it.
I don't watch mtv. It actually angers me on every level. What will carson do now? More Movie appearances where he plays himself. Josie and the pussycats. He's hired to kill the pussy cats ahahaha. Good movie.
I never liked TRL anyway. They only play like a ten second clip of the videos anyway, wth is up with that lol. Not to mention they have no rock on there anymore.
