The problem is that to store all that music, it compresses it. The article states that the music is compressed at a bitrate of 48kbps. Folks, that's worse than cassete-tape quality. Hell, it's probaby worse than an AM radio. So you take a CD with a nice, clear, awesome sound quality, compress the shit out of it, and end up with the worst sounding music you've ever heard.

If you want to store a ton of music, you're much better off getting an iPod

Ok, then it's settled. MP3 players are better. Buy that.

I'm fine with my MD Player and I see no difference in quality. But I'm not exactly the smartest in the technology section so... :p I may buy an iPod. I should have bought one in the first place. Meh. My whole school is walking around lsitening to music on MD players now. I bought one a year or two ago, now everybody has them. Although, I do find my MD player sometimes cuts the tracks up. Making what should be one whole track, five different pieces. Maybe that's just where I dropped it awhile back. Bah.

I'm looking at this cheap 1.5Gb MP3 player for $300 at Best Buy.
I really want an iPod, and though they're worth the money I wouldn't be able to save up that much.

Whatever you do, don't buy an iPod. Sure, it can hold a lot of songs on it, but you only get 8 hours of running time. My suggestion is to buy an Atrac3plus CD Player, or if you can find one, an Atrac3plus MD Player (not sure if they exist or not, can't remember). I've managed to put about 80% of my music collection (about 30 or so CD's) onto one disc, so that pretty much kills the idea of carrying around a CD case.

I can also get about 77 hours using an Atrac CD (77 hours for MP3 CD, and 48 for regular CD), but I've seen other players that go up to about 135 hours. Anyways, I hope that helps.

acutly thats why you need to gett he dj, it has 16 hours of batery life, and takes 30 minutes less to recharg, 3 and a half hours to charg a 16 hour batery to full, and with the ipod its 4 hours to charg an 8 hour batery to full, for me, that was unaceptible, definately on car trips! here is a review clicky that won me over, and take it from a satisfide costomer, this thing rocks! here is a full review i found from an honest co-LP fan that also has one and an ipod, even gives you all downs to it...

Pros: The battery life is on a level of its own, with 16 hours being a modest statement, I so far have gotten 18 before I recharged it, and recharging is also a breeze, 3 1/2 hours to recharge to 100% is great!!! The weight to it I like, makes me feel if I happen to drop it, it’s durable enough to take it, unlike others I have had. It has the best back light of any mp3 player, very pretty in dark. Price is great, since buying presents for my family, it has become hard to find an apple ipod for less than $299, this has 5 gigs more space and cost 50 less; plus with dells award winning support; if I hated it, I new I could simply return it and get a refund with out any trouble! The sound is great, with my head phones, $19.99 I bought at Wal-Mart Sony street style, and I wouldn’t dare turn the volume all the way up, which is good.

Cons: The Mutchmusic software is nice, but for the most part it can be a hassle, takes forever to upload a cd, and even longer becuase i have to number the songs on the album so it keeps them in order, for example... 01 Papercut 02 One Step Closer 03 Points of Athority ______ it gets anoying having to do that to a greatist hits cd, that has 20 songs on it. The weight for some is a turn off, although personaly i like it, it can be a downer for most. No games like the Ipod, less features, but again, for a 50 bucks less I don’t mind not being able to play solitaire and having to number my songs!

A lot of these sound great, but they're very costly. Money is what I need, and it's hard getting a job around here. They won't fire druggies just to let some punk kid in their store.

It's funny how the aliens are stealing jobs.

My friend has a 128Mb MP3 player and he likes it a lot, but it was $200. Very costly...
