Oh I know, I wasn't trying to single you out. There are other members who apparently felt he should have been banned. Which I don't agree with at all. I tried to post back on the first page about it but didn't know how to say it. Derek pretty much worded it the way I wanted to. It was nothing against you Will

Hey, I don't blame you man. I don't even know what happened, I just asked what caused it. Nothing more nothing less. If it was an outright OMFG SO AND SO NEEDS THEIR NECK SLIT then yeah, banhammers must be deployed, and the rest of your lovely argument (that's actually not sarcasm). However, I do think that there is favoritism, incited both by the Powers That Be and by us common folk.

I understand where you're coming from. It's pretty hard to try to get the exact story if you weren't there, especially considering it happened in RT and heaven knows how hard it's gotta be to find one single post in that behemoth.

But taking into account the situation you described (if what you believed was actually true) I could maybe see that happen here. Now, I think everyone's ready to prevent such a situation, popular member or not.

I wouldn't have kept arguing my point were it not for the fact that I felt like half the board misunderstood me and felt as though I wanted people to be banned right now when that couldn't be farther from the truth. I picked a bad example and that's my fault. So let's move on now and hope people don't hate me.

Nobody hates you, my good friend.

Although I feel exactly the same as you are. I seem to have caused a ruckus here with my "comment".

I tried to stay out of this mess as long as possible, but I'm throwing in the towel to add my 2 cents here. I'm not going to argue that their is favoritism. I think all of us on the staff have no problem admitting that. But the thing is, we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. There have been instances in the past where a popular, longtime member was banned after they screwed up enough times, and we got backlash from other members. And then when we pretend we didn't see a certain post and let it slide, some people think they're free to do whatever they want because we won't ban a popular member. I agree that the favoritism from us has got to stop and everyone needs to be treated equally. But at the same time, I ask the same from the members. Whether someone is a newbie or has been here for years and is a popular member, don't go after us when they get banned.

    I hate Will and Grace.

    But not Will.

Also, it seems a bit like everyones gone mad. Not angry, just generally a bit crazy. I've never witnessed anything like this on a forum, ever.

Everywhere else I've been posting a "I'm Leaving" topic would precede a barrage of abuse from people shouting stuff like "Spastic", "Drama queen", "Bender", "Internet Gay", and "Good riddance you cocksucker".

They'll be basing TV shows around forums soon, I guarantee it.

I know I'll try to do this. I've never been around for any of the high profile bans (or at least, ones that were controversial in any way) so I haven't seen any of the true backlash for any of that. But when or if that ever occurs, I'll definitely think about it rationally instead of going loco.

EDIT: Cale...? I don't know if that counts as using homophobic language or not, but yeah.

Well I would expect not, since I'm only quoting what's happened elsewhere. I'm not calling anyone here any of that lark.

    Anyway...

LPA. What a forum. What a damn nice forum/message board/place of internet socialising.

Yes, and we should make a new skin for the forums with millions upon millions of smiling faces and then have somewhere "Happy Happy Joy Joy" and whenever people come to the site, an audio clip pops up singing that.

    Now that's what we need.

    Me too.

I also think that they need to bring Ren and Stimpy back...

Also...what Cale said wasn't homophobic. I know that the mods and everyone are going to be more aware of what we post, but nitpicking is obnoxious. No offense to Iceman of course. :)

Exactly, I'm frustrated at how unreasonable it is to expect us to have caught that. If the report a post or PM functions had been used to alert us to what the post actually meant, it definitely would have been dealt with.

Everybody adheres to the same rules, but for the same reason first-time offenders and prisoners with good behavior get more leniency than multiple offenders in prisons and correction facilities, sometimes you can afford to give them a little more benefit of the doubt.

I mean, we've unbanned Will and Casey during the existence of these forums because they were upstanding members for a long period of time before flying off the handle.

I can tell you I've never turned a blind eye to someone for a warning, and I would have no problem banning them if they were so stupid as to get 3 warnings or 1 mega-warning, but you know what? If they were to apply for re-instation and had a long history of being a rule-abiding member, I'd at least give it more than a second thought at coming back on a one-strike basis.

Some people (and I am not talking about anyone in general) can be afforded a little bit of leniency when applying for re-instation. It's happened before with Will and Casey. They earned it for their behavior. I don't believe it's favoritism, I believe it's a reward. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be warned when they do something wrong, it means that there's a chance that if they're banned they can be accorded some slack.

But I'm going off on a tangent. There's been some very useful constructive criticism in here and we thank you for it. But there's also been some unfounded things said in here that need to be addressed, for if we don't address it, people might believe it to be true. Let it be said that any and all criticism is welcomed, and we've encouraged people to use the feedback forums in this thread, but if something needs to be cleared up when it's not entirely accurate, that's not something that should detract people from making their voices heard. You would never be warned or banned for criticizing the way we do things unless you break a rule.

I just have to ask one thing. I know I broke a rule in asking for an MP3, but does that infraction have to last forever? If it does, that's fine, but I'm just curious.

Mark, as I said before, that was merely my example. I thought the person came right out and said "so and so's throat should be slit," but they didn't, so it turned out to be a bad example to use.

You get it removed within I think it's a year or two if you get on good behavior.

Actually, right now, they are permanent, but we're currently reconsidering that
