Exactly, why does such animosity exist on these forums? A lot of this negativity on these boards could be solved if those of you with grudges, would kindly work out your differences in a mature and peaceful matter.

Want to bitch about someone? Tell me about it - or tell the person concerned in a PM direclty (though a CC to a staffer may well be helpful). Don't be such pillocks and show disagreement in such a silly manner.

Allow me to judge just who knows "what the fuck is going on". Ta.

I'd like to let it be known that my earlier post was only done out of shock reaction at what Dean wrote. I've only tried to help but next time I wont. Sorry if what I said was a little over the top.

I'd also like it to be known that I hold no grudges or maintain any fueds with anyone here.

All I know is favoritism is surely shown a lot on these boards because had a lesser member wished to slice someone's throat, they'd have been banned on the spot.

I don't care what your reasoning is for not banning him on the spot. You know as well as I know he should have been banned right away for making such a comment.

I never knew wishing someone's throat to be sliced merited only a slap on the wrist.

I think this is the only example I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are plenty others, but this is the one which stuck out most to me.

To be fair, for all I did months and months ago, I should have been banned right away as well. So I don't want anyone to think I got out fair and square either.

I'm inclined to agree, as you know. But similarly, I don't want to start anything else, so I'm just going to bow out of this situation. :)

I want the staff to know I don't want him banned, at least not now since the situation's done and over with. But I felt it best to point out there is, indeed, favoritism, because a lesser member would've surely been banned for such comments.

I wasn't exactly present for what happened... in fact I'm pretty clueless as to what the heck is going on, but I'd have to agree with Will.

To be fair, he didn't exactly address the post to anyone or directly threaten someone, so how the hell were any of the staff supposed to know the back story?

What happens on the forums and off the forums are two separate things, and if we had to evaluate every single quote for its underlying purpose, we'd have nothing else to do. We're not a god damn investigative bureau. How anyone expects someone like me, or many of the other staff members, people who don't even socialize with you people, to right away understand the context behind any posts that are indirect such as your example, is beyond me.

If there's a problem of harassment between two members, and it's not exactly the most prevalent and obvious of things, what's so difficult about filing a complaint through a PM or the "report a post" function? Much like the police, or a principal of a high school, we don't keep tabs on every single bit of interactivity between the members, and we sure as hell aren't able to catch every single post and analyze it on a daily basis. We need to be informed of issues, we're not bloody mind readers.

I know we're moderators, but I can't help but feel like a babysitter for some of you people.

To be fair, you didn't exactly need to talk down on me (or anyone else) with your post. Let's try to be a little more professional, huh? Maybe it'd help, and people wouldn't feel so intimidated. Instead of sitting there, yelling at us to do certain things (such as use the Report function), you could probably try, oh, I don't know, kindly telling us to do so, as Derek's already done?

There's absolutely no reason for you to sit there and belittle me or anyone else in your explanation of why it's so hard to moderate the forums.

Your attitude about this (and the attitude of others) is why some people are choosing to leave. I hate when things like this happen, because people give examples and offer suggestions, and one or more staff members comes in and brings down their mighty fist of fury and tells us we're wrong, or that they've got no way to do anything we suggested, which nullifies the point of the thread to begin with.

Also, I didn't know he didn't direct the post toward anyone. I heard the story, and assumed he did. It was a communication error, and obviously one I shouldn't have commented on lest I get yelled at for apparently giving an example, which is exactly what happened.

I think it can basically be summed up into this:

    1) Don't bring drama into the forums. Seriously.
    2) If you catch drama in the forums, report report report.
    3) There's some favoritism on the boards.

Now let's be friendly? Before we all end up deciding to go out into the sun (God forbid!)

I'm only peeking my head in here to agree with this post.

And I had asked the threatener why the threat was made, and while there is no imminent reason as to why, the threatener even admited that it was immature and silly to even make the threat. There. Look. Remorse. Are you all happy now.

What has happened has happened, nothing can be changed, punishment has been determined, albeit it lower than should be allowed for something of that matter, and now LPA is trying to make it up to you all and get back on the ball with equal justice.

What more do you guys want? They know there is favoritism and they're trying to stop it. If there's drama, either cut the shit, or bring it somewhere else. If there's something that's really bothersome and there needs to be something done, report it.

    End of story.

See, even in this thread there are people who go out of their way to call someone out. Why did Dean have to go out of his way to tell Luke he's full of shit? Did that make him feel better?

Until some people learn to control themselves and keep the negativity to themselves, nothing is going to change.

I think the reason Mark is so frustrated Will, is because everyone seems to be targeting a specific post made a month ago on the forums, as an example of 'where we went wrong' with our moderating. Which is why I need to clarify something as peacefully as possible:

Before the offended member came to me, we had no clue as to the back story of that particular post or that it was even in reference to a member as it did not actually name anyone in particular, and was very vague in nature. It was in essence, vague enough to be considered as a song lyric or whatever may be, and if it wasn't for one of us (namely myself) knowing about some of the personal drama off of these boards, we would've never guessed it was about a certain member...and thus is why it went without a warning for so long. It should be noted that the offending post finally received a warning as of about two days ago, and that the particular member now has a mark on their record and is being watched to make sure no future rulebreakings occur. That's the best we can do, and I feel that blatantly singling out that member in this thread (although no names have been dropped) is a good way to lead to an epic forum battle, and thus in the interest of keeping the peace I must ask for you to all to please refrain from mentioning the event from this point forward.

It has been handled, the member has been notified of the ramifications resulting from the said post, and will be banned (i.e. treated like everyone else with no favoritism) if he makes a similar post in the future. We've done all we can do as moderators, and cannot ban a member just because people want us to do so, that is unfair and unjust, and the person deserves at least one more chance before we ban him from this site for good.

Wouldn't you have wanted a second chance if you were in the same situation Will? I know you would.

Everyone basically needs to calm down for a while. Stress is abound, everyone is biting at one another. I mean seriously, we've even got some admin whiplash. Everyone just needs to chill out.

    Take a step back.

We've already got the three main points that have been extrapolated out of this fiasco. Admin side has promised to work on it, most of us have taken it upon ourselves to also be responsible.

    DONE. IT'S FINISHED.

Seriously, let's just get back to business as usual, just with a more cautious eye. Keep in mind those three points.

And if that doesn't pan out, I seriously believe it would do everyone here a great deal if maybe the forums were shut down for a few days. Maybe even a week.

OK, I skimmed over your post, because I've got a good feeling I know exactly what it says without even reading it. (Don't worry, I will read it.)

I brought it up as an example, knowing very little about the situation other than that the threat was made. It was the only thing I could think of at the time, since I've got no ambition to actually look for examples, especially since some of them would be considered trivial by some and super important by others.

It was clearly a dumb example, and no doubt it's going to get me some heat from certain people around here thinking I've got a vendetta against someone, rather than me trying to be a good member by giving an example of something I felt was done wrongly and my offer of a suggestion on how to better handle things like that in the future.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to single out any one person, but rather an example of what shouldn't have happened. But since I knew no background information other than the fact that it happened, my example obviously turned out to be something which made no bearing at all on any situations at hand.

I'd also like to point out that I've got no problems with the person whom this example is based upon. It's just unfortunate that he ended up being the person in the example.

I also never said I wanted him banned.

The forums will not be shut down due to drama, that is something I refuse to do.

We just need people to use the report a post and PM function more often, and let us know when a problem arises on these boards, or when one is about to so we can handle it as quickly as possible. Due to the fact we have moderators from all areas of the world, it is almost guaranteed that at least one should be on at all times so therefore, if you report the post or PM the said moderator, it should be taken care of as soon as possible.

We need your help to make these forums more peaceful. It's not something we can do on our own.

I agree with everything you and the mods have been saying. It was impossible from the post, especially being in Random Thoughts, for any of you (or anyone else for that matter) to know the meaning behind the post. I don't see why everyone thinks it was a bannable offense. He didn't single out someone and threaten them, even if it was directed at an unnamed person.

I only said it should be a bannable offense because I thought (and misunderstood) that he blatantly threatened the person the threat was made against (again a misunderstanding) and offered my opinion that, had a lesser member made such a blatant threat (which the threat was not) he or she would've been banned, thus falling into my argument that there is favoritism. That is all my example was trying to convey, NOT that someone should be banned right here, right now.

This has nothing to do with singling anyone out or trying to get someone banned. It has everything to do with giving an example and offering suggestions on how to avoid that. The staff knows what I mean, and they're going to do their jobs. I'd bet money that Derek understands now that I do NOT want him banned and I do NOT have a vendetta against him to BE banned.
