I completely agree with everything you just said, but I just want to emphasize the bold. Yet again. Because it seems some people will never understand, no matter how many times we "ATS elitists" explain what another ATS would be.

You get it, man. Great post.

I agree with almost everything, and I still stand by the theory that Living Things was influenced by the label.

I just want LP to make an album that's so crazy and different everybody in the fanbase goes crazy.

The Wasting Light-esque recording process sounded fun, but the short two-year gap makes me worried. I want a great LP album, even if it takes ten to fifteen more years.

Sorry if I'm demanding, but I'm just frustrated that LP haven't made a great, history changing album ever. Not even Hybrid Theory nor A Thousand Suns. I'm pretty pissed that some indie pop groups and even Justin freaking Timberlake can make more crazy, experimental records than a rock band like Linkin Park.

    A Thousand Suns.

Look, for me, and maybe most everybody, why Hybrid Theory and Meteora came out it was the thing. I twas the it thing to have and it was good for the time it came out but honestly those albums have no aged well. My musical taste has grown where I want full albums instead of a collection of songs. It's very difficult for me to sit and listen to Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and Living Things from start to finish. Some of the songs on each record stand out great on their own, but it's just hard for me to sit through.

I don't want another A Thousand Suns in terms of sound, I want another A Thousand Suns in the sense of I know the band challenged themselves and the album is just way far out there, but it's still being Linkin Park.

First I'm not posting "anytime anyone says anything negative", otherwise my post count would be waaaay higher ;)

I simply reacted to the "disastrous" because I felt that term was totally uncalled. You are annoyed by my redundant interventions? I am annoyed by the redundant free LT bashing. A record which I'm not even a fan of. At all.

Oh I never said that. I'm not as stupid as to make such senseless big generalization, thank you. But I can still notice some of the most vigorous LT-bashers are people who seems to be hardly interested in punchy music to begin with, based on some other threads of this forum (Best 2013 Albums, Rate That Song, ...). A sci-fi hater constantly bashing star wars would not be a model of credibility to me. Well, it's the same here.

Ok, you are once again totally misleading my intentions. If I came out like that, then my fault. But let it be know, I love mellow music.

Bottom line: you misinterpreted my posts and attributed me at least 2 dumb arguments. That was very nice :)

    ----------------
Xero21, nice post. I'm not sure every people wanting "another ATS" has the same vision as you though. And another thing, when I'm making the comparison between "Meteora purists" and "ATS elitits", I'm just comparing the mentality behind the repetitive complaints of both.

The first don't mind the mentality but want a certain sound, and if they don't get it, some are complaining over and over again.

The second don't mind the sound (and as I've said, I'm convinced some does, but that's another story) but want a certain mentality/complexity/experimentation, and if they don't get it, some are complaining over and over again.

I totally love the idea of a guitar-driven ATS-like album.

One thing I'd really like is to change the structure of the songs a bit. Lately I've been listening to Bring Me The Horizon's There is a Hell... and one of my favorite things about it is that (most of) the songs don't have the traditional pop structure, which LP tends to use. And that doesn't mean they can't have a huge chorus, or two same verses, they should just add something to that. Do what feels natural.

This is a good point which gets made infrequently: the band can come up with all the cool sounds they want ... they just have to start writing really good songs to use them in.

It is perhaps one of my biggest problems with musicians. They create excellent sounds and samples but don't do very well with their implementation and usage in their music. It's something that happens with Justin Timberlake on occasion - he comes up with excellent sounds and sometimes just loads them into a shot gun and blasts them without making them sound good together.

Yet still all you want is rapping and screaming? :obama:

Also, I don't think the ATS ship has sailed. In any sense.

    ~

LIVING THINGS was fine. Really not as bad as some make it out to be. But yeah, it was definitely a slowdown in the pace of Linkin Park's experimentation. I've never really been mad about the album, but I've always liked it a lot. Not because the band did this and that on it, in terms of (non)experimentation – I simply enjoyed it. Now, what Tony said:

Can it really? I think it has made us appreciate A Thousand Suns more, but if the next album continues what ATS has started, and if it's as good, or even better, what will we think of when we think of LIVING THINGS? In such a case, wouldn't ATS be the stepping stone, and LT, the, um... tripping stone? I leave it up to you.

It's quite clear you didnt read what I wrote lol I said Idc what the music sounds like instrumental wise whether its ambient, guitar driven, electronic, techno, dubstep, house, club, piano driven, just as long as there is screaming ad rapping. Just as long as there is that LP formula. And yeah the ats ship sailed a very long time ago it sailed about over 3 years ago and never came back.

I'm cautiously optimistic like Xero21, but he's hit it right on the money. I'm really hoping that being self-produced is the X factor they need to make their major breakaway again, because I get the sense that a lot of the radio-friendliness comes from feeling like they can't experiment too much or else risk alienating their fans (on their own part)/dropping in sales (read: record company giving them pressure). If it's entirely self-produced, that means there isn't somebody looking over their shoulder rewriting their lines/riffs. Maybe that will push them to be their own internal guide so that we can expect some real quality product.

A preview photograph of what could be future album artwork for the new album has been posted by Joe Hahn's DJ tech, Warren Willis. Guess Linkin Park are big fans of Breaking Bad. xD

Also, Linkin Park's studio engineer, Ethan Mates, has been posting some interesting gear on his Instagram feed. Here are a couple of the most recent:
