Couple of days later it turns into this. It goes on for a few more days until it eventually spells out Death Magnetic.

So I wreckon our dandruff storm is in a similar vein.

This might sound stupid, but has anyone tried finding other clues?

If it is an ARG, there may be more out there. I know when NIN did Year Zero, the clues were found on different web sites, new ones. But I don't know how those were revealed or found at all.

That ain't a bad guess at all! Mike wrote a while ago bout Death Magnetic. He was very impressed about their big return and he actually said something like "Metallica hath returned" or something... Add to that all the crap that LP took from many so called fans bout MTM and you might start to see some connections between the two... LP is also maybe looking for a 'big revenge' On the other hand I always tend to think that LP doesn't get nervous about critics and they stay with their own ideas!

There has been a lot of speculation, but the most probably prediction was courtesy of an LPL community member. They said something along the lines of this: the reason its not flash is because fans found the M2M cover very easily when the teaser was revealed. This time its different and difficult, but its most likely that more pixels and fractions of artwork will be revealed over time.
There is a transcript of a chat with mike over at a site called mikeshinodaclan or something and there is expectation for more artwork and entertainment - mainly the fans have supply the latter and the band supplies the former.

My recommendation is for someone to either take pictures or extract the file and watch if there are additions to the image and code periodically.
