What were you smoking when you just said that? I saw a thing on MTV where Lars said he wanted Napster GONE.
They all said they wanted it gone. I've heard them say it numerous times. I really don't like Metallica. I think they are completely overrated.

I saw an interview last week and lars said he tried to keep it open
I'll rest Casey's point: Hypocrites. Lars is a damned liar.
Are any of these articles online?
Yeah, you just have to look for them. I don't remember where any of them are. There was only one article with that many quotes, though. I wish I knew where that article was, though.
I'll rest Casey's point: Hypocrites. Lars is a damned liar.
They were the band forefront and center demanding for napster to be shut down, what are you talking about? Metallica were also a part of the illegal underground tape exchange circuit in Los Angeles in the 80's. Circulating free music back then, but not now? Now come on.
Metallica is okay, but I think they're a bit overrated. I do like 'Enter Sandman' and 'Fade to Black' and some other songs of theirs, though. But the whole Napster thing made me like them less. I mean, those guys probably have more money than they know what to do with, but they got all hyped up when people who didn't have money and wanted to listen to their stuff downloaded it. Such greed.

Metallica were also a part of the illegal underground tape exchange circuit in Los Angeles in the 80's. Circulating free music back then, but not now? Now come on.
Exactly. They are idiots and hypocrites.
Okay, so they are control-freaks who have become greedy SOBs...how does that in any way affect their music? Their 80s music (especially Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets) were amazing albums that created a new genre. I think people should talk more about this instead of calling them hypocrites and liars. You CANNOT deny the fact that Metallica has influenced basically every rock/metal band of today. Where would Linkin Park be without them? Musically, Metallica's music is a lot more creative and emotional than any Linkin Park song I can think of (IMO).
That's a good point. I personally do not like what I've heard from Metallica, but it's not a genre I listen to a lot so it's nothin personal to anyone who does like them. http://www.zeropaid.com/news/articles/auto...o/11032002b.php ^^^ here's one with quotes from Jon David, Tom Petty, Snoop Dogg and Will Smith if anyone 's interested.
Hypocrites or whatever, Metallica is ####### amazing. Man, they have the best live show I've seen, yet (I doubt it'll be topped). They're my number one all time favorite band, and songs like "One", "Orion", "To Live is to Die", and "Fade to Black" blow me away like no other.
well the whole hypocrites thing it is possible that they can change their stance on some things and from what i understand the bootlegging in the 80's was of live shows and i'm guessing(so dont kill me if i'm wrong) that most napster users were using it to download album songs that you could buy. i could be wrong about this whole thing but Odaton is right they are very important to many of the rock bands today
The fact that they are overplayed and are so totally against any form of music downloading has made me completely dislike them. And around here, if you're white trash, you're a Metallica fan. And that's not stereotyping, that's just how it is here. "If I wanna be awesome, I have to wear a Metallica shirt and pretend I know all their songs..." Lemmings.
