I just listened to the song, and I've got to say, it's growing on me. I don't think it sounds much like Linkin Park, though.
The intro is like LP. The rest is nothing like LP. But punk? I very much doubt it. I loved The Black Parade, but I think this means they'll be going back to the unexciting, generic shit they did prior to that. My opinion anyway.
I'd like to expand on your statement by noting the following: An up-tempo beat does not a punk rock song make.
Thats what im afraid will happen. Im all for making your music simpler, but I dont want them to move backwards musically.
QFT Too bad none of MCR's 12 year old girl fans will realise this... No offence to any of the more intelligent MCR fans on here of course
I would define this song as punk rock to a certain extent. Obviously MCR aren't really a punk band in terms of ethic anymore, if that's what you mean.
Well. The song includes most of those. It actually sounds a lot like Misfits or, taking the piano into account, more recent Alkaline Trio.
Fair enough I guess... See, though, if that's punk, so is Green Day, and blink-182, and so many people seem to disagree with that. Personally i believe they are. *shrug*
The way I see it is that there's a difference between punk rock (a genre of music) and punk (a mentality and subculture).
That's pretty much it, I think, like everything it has grown in various ways over the years so it's normal you can't really compare certain subgenres of Punk Rock anymore. Some bands lean towards commercial succes, others are more into the subculture and mentality... or the other way around.
Yea thats probably a good way of looking at it. Like, in the same vein as The Clash and stuff were punk way back when, the closest thing we have now is probably Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, resisting the record industry and that. Not so much Radiohead now they went and signed a deal though.
Im not sure if this song is punk. Personally I think that its more rock. Though, im not sure, the only punk that i've heard is Green Day and The Ramones. I dont think that there's enough screaming for it to be considered a punk song, though. Also, I could not hear the bass at all, so im not sure if it fits with the description Voltron posted.
I have ALWAYS thought Both were Punk ESPECIALLY Blink 182 With songs like The Rock Show, Dumpweed, Voyeur, First Date, Anthem Part 2, Whats My Age Again?, and some others To me..It's not So much as to Punk Against the Government type. Its like. Having Fun Being An Annoying "Punk" Type Music; when your a teenager, or a trouble maker. Somewhere along those lines. To me "Punk Rock" is an Open Genre. It can be ranging from Anti-Flag to Blink 182 and I do consider Sum 41 punk as well. just because of songs like The Hell song, In Too Deep, Fat Lip. Etc
LAWL@it supposedly sounding like LP. AND OH NOES, the punk discussion. How original. Anyway, the song's chorus reminds me of the chorus from Give 'Em Hell, Kid. And guys, who the fuck said that the "new song" is gonna be on the album? They've even said themselves that they're not sure yet. So although this song is not typically 'punk rock', the tracks off the album might be. *shrug* Looking forward to some new stuff! =D
