More from MTV... You'll recall that on Tuesday, in the course of looking into Internet rumors that Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan had found Jesus and was leaving the band, we e-mailed Keenan and put the question to him directly. His response was: "i did, in fact, find jesus. More news to follow. God bless ya." After contemplating this communication, with its lowercase "j" for "Jesus" and its oddly breezy "God bless ya," we began to wonder: Was MJK pulling our leg, yanking our chain — in a word, lying to us? We e-mailed him again and asked flat-out. His response this time: "heh heh." Jesus. — Kurt Loder
Yeah I saw that being mentioned over on Echoing The Sound, but didn't have the patience to look through the shit on MTV.com I'm pretty sure it's a joke now. I posted a thread like this at another board I go to, and I sparked a religious debate. B)
It's been that way for the entire time... I really don't think anyone ever took it too seriously, knowing Tool
I know quite a few people who took it seriously. It's not really that much of stretch that Maynard would find Christ. Far-fetched? Yeah. But out of the question? No.
True, but given the timing, I think most wrote it off pretty quickly. And after the MTV e-mails, who would believe it? I'm not arguing with you... just saying I think most people thought it was a joke all along, although I'm sure some didn't.
The MTV emails is what really sealed the deal that it was a joke. For me atleast. Before that, I didn't know what to think. I heard that the Tool website mentioned the new album after they did the April Fools joke, but I never saw it. Yeah.
"This is a beautiful, beautiful outpouring of the Holy Spirit," Welch wrote in an e-mail to MTV News. This being a joke makes that quote 10x better.
