Thank you very much for the compliment! I love metal, and I certainly love Agalloch! I love most atmospheric doom. Katatonia is another popular, but awesome band in this genre that I really like.
Yeah Katatonia are good. And everyone check out a band from Australia called Ne Obliviscaris, they have one 3 song demo out and they're already hailed as the next Opeth. They have a full length coming out this year. I think their myspace is www.myspace.com/neobliviscaris Can't bothered checking. Their drummer won fastest feet in Australia. Their singer also plays violin. And they're so good that their new guitarist came over from france just to join their band. You can also watch videos of their bassist playing some of their songs as well as others. And if after watching his videos you aren't convinced by this band, i don't know what will.
Obliviscaris are absolutely amazing, I somehow never thought to think of posting them. There's actually quite a lot of good Australian metal acts, apart from the obvious ones like Parkway Drive and I Killed the Prom Queen (who I both love). There'a s couple of decent Perth bands I'm mates with, like Arturo Chaos and Atvena's Wake, who are worth checking out if you like Parkway or IKTPQ.
Will check them out. I can't say too much about melbourne metal, we seem to have a lot of eh hardcore bands. We have Parkway Drive and The Red Shore nowadays that are doing well I guess. But bands like Carpathian, Her Nightmare, Miles Away, 50 Lions (I think they all come from Victoria at least) don't do anything for me. Psycroptic (tech), The Eternal (doom), Vanishing Point (progpower) and Be'lakor (prog/melodeth) are good metal bands to check out though.
I tried Carpathian on the recommendation of a friend and they were pretty boring. Parkway Drive are pretty solid. I say "pretty" a lot.
Woot, the metal thread is back! 'Metal' bands I listen to: All That Remains As I Lay Dying Old Avenged Sevenfold Black Sabbath Behemoth BFMV Children of Bodom Chimaira Combichrist Daath The Dillinger Escape Plan Emperor Evergreen Terrace Everytime I Die Exit Ten Forever Never Haste the Day I Killed the Prom Queen In Flames Iron Maiden Johnny Truant Killswitch Engage Lamb of God Lostprophets Machine Head (well, like 3 songs, but meh) Maylene and the Sons of Disaster Metallica NIN Norma Jean Opeth Parkway Drive Protest the Hero Slipknot Still Remains Through the Eyes of the Dead Unearth 3 Inches of Blood Mostly 'Metalcore' I guess, but to be honest I'll listen to, if not like most 'true' metal. There's a lot more where I only have a couple tracks by the band, or they're band that is debatable as metal (i.e. Stone Sour or similar). But, CoB on Feb.19th, FTW!.
I don't really care about what's trve or not. Thrash Metal is a fusion genre just like Metalcore is. But yeah, +1 for Death! Edit: Oh wait you said Daath which is meant to be spelt Dååth, but i guess you don't have a swedish keyboard like me.
I remember there being lots of metal snobs on Last.fm who basically listened to nothing besides Scandinavian metal bands (especially NSBM), grindcore and stuff like Sun O))) and Xasthur. So unless you mean The Haunted even thrash isn't kvlt, and even then they're a stretch because they have melodies, and lyrics that aren't about paganism and burning churches.
No, it was indeed Daath, but Death are pretty good too. I've never really listened to them a huge amount, but what I've heard is goood. What are people's thoughts on Wrath now it's leaked?
I lived there with my family in '01/'02. Awesome place. And while we were there we bought a new computer, and now that we have a newer computer i took this one to my room. So, i have a swedish computer/keyboard. I lived in Stockholm by the way. Oh and Dean, Sunn O))) is good but i hate depressive black metal, like Xasthur. The vocals are disgusting. Nowadays on lulz.fm the metalheads have been replaced by regular 4chan'ers who whore the Opeth, Between The Buried and Me and Boris shoutbox's.
I'm definitely digging it. I like the slightly more riff-based approach they've taken. So far, it's my second top album of the year, only behind Architects' Hollow Crown.
I've never really liked any black metal much. The closest I've gotten to liking any black metal is when I've edited the faces of the members of Immortal onto other pictures. Cave In's first album is AMAZING. By that I mean Until Your Heart Stops. It's not even their best album but their albums since then aren't totally relevant as far as metal is concerned. Oh god, I listened to Boris' Absolutego last night. Easily the scariest song/album i've ever heard. It was fucking torture.
Cursed! That's another band who are/were amazing, despite not being 100% metal. Btw I'm referring to the band called Cursed, not Boris.
Just checked out Ne Obliviscaris and that is some really cool stuff for sure! Violins in metal!! Of course I am a huge Opeth fan, and always will be! As for more "classic metal", you can't beat old Metallica and Iron Maiden, and other prog metal like Tool, Porcupine Tree, etc is amazing. I am also a fan of more Tech stuff like Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah, and Between the buried and Me. Candiria, especially their earlier stuff is also superb. Any Cynic fans around here? If so, I loved their classic "Focus" but what do you think about their new album? From what I heard its missing some of the quasi-jazz which made their sound so unique and contrasted their more brutal aspects.
