He kind of acknowledges both sides actually, or at least I'm guessing that's what the start of the second verse is. Rather that than him trying to make it black and white.
"Jihad is not a holy war, wheres that in the worship? Murdering is not Islam! And you are not observant And you are not a muslim Israel don’t take my side cause look how far you’ve pushed them Walk with me into the ghetto, this where all the Kush went Complain about the liquor store but what you drinking liquor for?" This part confuses me, is he supposed to be having an argument with himself here?
It's great he's speaking his mind, but honestly the conspiracy BS is just ignorant, I'm a huge Lupe fan, and it's cool he's calling out Obama for once.
I like the song and the lyrics aren't advocating the conspiracy theorists, it's more of a reference to them as he plays devils advocate. At least that's how I see it. They make you think at the end of the day and keep you interested, which is a good thing even if you don't agree with the words he's saying.
I think he's saying that violence isn't compatible with Islam and people are ignorant when they think that way. At the same time he's blaming Israel for pushing Palestinians, people of Muslim faith, to the point of committing violence.
I don't see the problem with the conspiracy theories being mentioned. If anything, I think it's completely open-minded to notice that not everyone thinks everything is as clear as black and white (as not everyone thinks 9/11 wasn't a conspiracy). What I'm trying to say is, "I agree with Joe." And to me, Skylar Grey sounds like a pornstars name, Jus' sayin'.
Skylar Grey makes me think of Sasha Grey lol. And I think that mentioning the conspiracies he did without condemning them is problematic still. If he had said something like "And they tell me 6 million Jews were killed, but did it really happen?" I doubt many would be satisfied with saying he was just mentioning Holocaust deniers and playing devil's advocate.
Lupe delivers the pizza better than anyone else! I'm particularly fond of his voicing out on the ignorance people display when associating Islam with violence and terrorism.
You LIKED? I listen to it twice an hour I'm gonna overdo it and get annoyed like I did with The Catalyst, perhaps Then again, that's nearly 6 minutes...
Exactly. I bought 3 copies of Food & Liquor, 4 copies of The Cool. He has the right to rap about anything he wants. But I won't be buying this album.
Maybe he doesn't wanna condemn they because they're true? Just because some conspiracies are false, doesn't mean they all are.
Well, if that's him questioning whether 9/11 was an inside job in the first verse that's one you can immediately chalk up to probably not being true just by using straightforward logic, so I don't see the use in even playing devil's advocate.
Aspartame causing brain cancer is also just false, so that also irked me. I also don't agree with him on Islam but that is a whole different topic. That said, I can't stop listening to the song. It was very well written, even if I disagree with most of the content.
Other than the 9/11 thing the first verse overall I can agree lyrically. But regarding that line, it seems like he could have gotten his point across without having to bring up 9/11 conspiracies. Just mentioning the fact that there could be cover ups would have been enough. I liked the analogy by using the Holocaust. Really, that line is like him saying "The Nazis killed the Jews, OR DID THEY?"

HAHAHA....that's exactly what I said! And just to let you all know, Lupe is actually a muslim so he's indeed defending Muslims and the Jihaad. Anyhow, I just listened to the song and that is one amazing song. I absolutely love the beat and the sounds in the back. The lyrics don't bother me at all because I think what he says is true on his behalf.
