Even though I haven't heard the CD yet (haven't had time), the above comment is exactly my thoughts on this CD just based off of reviews I've read. This is why LPU CDs are important. I understand that people want demos with vocals (count me as one of them), but these demos are great because they offer a unique insight into the band's creative process and how much they change direction during recording cycles.
Anyone notice how the piano in Berlin One, Version C sounds a bit like the outro piano from the The Catalyst?
Man I can really just imagine hearing vocals (girl and guy) and a cal powerless or wfte guitar on Berlin one version c
Definitely agree with this. I´d rather have uncompleted instrumental demos than complete mystery around LP creative process.
I also think that it comes down to thinking...I mean do we know how much songs even get as far as having vocals put on them? Probably not much.
First thing that came to mind for me as far as the tone of the song was Jornada del Muerto for some reason. Edit: Dave's Beat is obviously the original demo for Robot Boy. Edit 2: Rhinocerous could have been on the Pacific Rim score.
I love the BTH one. I remember that being Mikes baby. Hearing the original shows the progression of this song. Idk, Mikes a musical genius (besides the vocals in this one ) but I think I can honestly say this is one of the worst LPU CDS we have saw in a few years.
I think Malathion+Tritonus is the outro of Points of Authority in the Road to Revolution DVD, the last part is exactly the same.
This album shows me three things: 1. Mike and Brad really do write a ton together, there's live drums on like one demo lol 2. If a song makes it to album the majority of Mike's melodic ideas are mostly unchanged 3. Mike loves distorted beats and using the same piano tricks (chords under short repeating right hand phrases) Pretty good album. I enjoyed the mix of heavy and piano based songs
Mike's doing quite the quiet falsetto in BTH, which leads me to believe he is more focused on hitting similar notes to what Chester would be bringing to the performance, rather than actually recording for the track. At this point, I don't think Mike would have been more focused on getting Chester's vocals on the track than experimenting with his own.
