Art in any form is someone's vision, whether it be a piece of art, a song, a book, it is representative of a emotion, a thought, a moment in the artists life that means something to them. Take the cover of Metallica's album Load, its blood and semen. Is it gross? Yes. It is art? Yes. You might not like it, but it is the result of someone's perception of what art is. It might not be aesthetically pleasing, but it is still art. It still has merit and substance. Just because it might not be on the same scale of greatness as say the Mona Lisa doesn't mean it doesn't deserve respect. Ok, done rambling now.
Um, OK, it's really a parody album. They're just goofing around. I think of all people, the band would be the first to tell you they don't consider it artistic. Just fun. Comparing this to Metallica's album cover is a bit odd. Back on topic... I think they should release "26 Letterz in da Alphabet" as a single. I bet it'd get airplay given some of the songs I hear on the radio.
I wasn't comparing it to the cover art, I was just using that as an example of an unusual piece of art work. And I think as a whole, the lpu8 cd is art, just take a look at the cover for it.
Yes, the cover is very funny. I really think you're stretching the definition of "art" here, though. They weren't trying to create art... just something amusing. I mean, hell, we can sit here and say William Hung's songs were "art" because technically they were, but that again is stretching things -- just like comparing this album to a world-renowned painter who has had his work inspire millions, if not billions, of people. That's all I'm saying
Ok, then, would you consider this art? http://www.marin.cc.ca.us/art107/images/ChristoRunningFenceLand.jpg It's abstract, but its still considered art. I am married to someone who majored in art/art history in college, can you tell?
You're going the exact route I just said. ANYTHING can be considered art. ANYTHING. But, as I've said, I'm more than willing to bet the band doesn't consider it "art" -- just a fun thing to mess around with. This is not the best of Linkin Park's "artistic merits," I think even you'll agree with me on that. Can you consider this art? Absolutely, be my guest. But, please, let's not compare this to Vincent Van Gogh. Now that is a "slap in the face" (as many say this album is) to art, if anything. That is the only point I was making.
Sigh. Did I compare it to Van Gogh? No. I said its like forcing Van Gogh to apologize for his art work. Apparently Mike and Chester thought it was good, humorous work, that's all I am saying. That he needed to apologize for it was awkward, and that he felt the need to even do so was due to a mean spirited reaction on the part of a lot of people whining. I like to debate, sorry. I won't continue to do so on this, since what I said was taken out of context. =(
Some people needs to go get an ice cream sandwich. Strong Bad needs to go get an ice cream sandwich. And so does everyone else. Calm down, guys.
