Simply Mike's inspiration is coming from somewhere else for this album. Simple as that. Why would he want to make another album inspired by the same things that inspired him 3 years ago?
I forever long hope for an Unplugged set from this band. They're so fucking good at it. Also, people just need to let it go. Let. It. Goooo. Hanging on to what Mike said or seriously criticizing Heavy is seriously going to put a dimple on how you enjoy this album cycle.
Thanks for the great interview, LPA. I'm even more curious on how the songs will sound and come together to give "One More Light" it's identity as an album.
I've grown to like Heavy the more I listen to it, but that Halfway Right lyric is imo more powerful than the entirity of that song. Chilling. All these other details are delicious as well. Good interview, you guys.
What I find funny is that Mike was completely right. The Disney channel commercials used to use background music that seemed to intentionally sound like FTP and CHVRCHES, and both of these bands are played on rock radio. Hell 5 years ago a rock station had me at #6 on a "bands to look out for" list. That same radio station is famous for "Not So Silent Night" and "BFD". So yeah, it's pretty fucking weird that rock/alternative stations are playing "alternative" artists that basically sound like pop music.
One More Light could be a great Album, i hated Heavy first time, but only because it wasnt what i expected, same happened with The Catalyst and GATS Now, i cant get this song out of my head and i love those lyrics, because they fit so perfect to my actual situation OML will hopefully give me chills like ATS does P.s. sorry for my bad english, i'm german :^^
First of all, your English is good. Second, totally agree. I did not expect Heavy to sound like it did, even though I knew it was a soft song. And it's probably my favorite first single since The Catalyst.
"We've seen the band touch on this record as a very 'personal' record. You've mentioned that connotations of family led you to choose the album cover, for instance." "We've heard you talk about the sombre nature of the title track 'One More Light'" " You also noted how there's no screaming on this record" Ok am I stupid or something how in the HELL did I miss this? when was this revealed? I check the front page every day. Still great interview I was starting to worry about lack of promotion, this time it felt like everything was released before we knew anything. The title was revealed, also the cover and 1st single, and I was like "hey wait a minute, what's the theme of the album, why did you chose that name for title etc." Then I read this interview and felt stupid as it seemed all of you knew all that, and I somehow missed it. Silly me.
Chesters vocals on Heavy are amazing, yeah, very raw and emotional and what i read about the other Songs (Chester Raps on one Song, am i right) sounds also very impressive ♡
Doubt it. LP was almost the band that (at least after Meteora) decided to never do the same thing twice. Sure, could be that, again, they change your midn, but at this point I would forget every such chance.
As Incubus new song says "A Swing and a miss" But In all seriousness I really, really can't wait for this album after this interview
Honestly in comparision Heavy sounds godlike. Check out the post where most of the main interviews for this cycle are posted here http://www.lpassociation.com/forum/threads/42835
"There’s so much music out there; there’s so much stuff that sounds like Haim or CHVRCHES or Vampire Weekend that I’m full." Tell me where he is shitting on them. Because I can't see it for the fucking life of me. And who cares, its fucking McDonald's. That did not phase me one bit. Shit on them all you want, they're not a high quality, good moral company anyways. And all he said is they make consistent food. I would hope that a fast food restaurant doesn't change the menu completely every 2 years.
