I have heard a few translations. All of it has to do with misery, sorrow, etc. and song, singing, etc. You are probably right though, I just ran a quick internet translator and it is Spanish for "Misery Will Sing", which is pretty close to Sing the Sorrow. EDIT: I just noticed how badly NIN are being hurt by having so many awesome CDs, it makes the votes for them split. EDIT2: Miseria Cantare is also Latin for something long the lines of "Wretched Chant"
ok editing dude ^ and a few changes Eminem-The Eminem show Atreyu- Lead Sails Slipknot-All Hope Is Gone(idk bout this one i love it now but idk if it will stand the test of time) All That Remains- The Fall Of Ideals Linkin Park-Meteora(cant believe i forgot to add this)
Little Earthquakes - Tori Amos I can't fully describe the way I feel when I hear this album. Even after 17 years, I feel complete when I hear it. My favorite song of all time, Silent All These Years, comes from this record. However, the song that means the most to me off the album is another one, Me and a Gun. I would post some of the lyrics, but as there's minor's here, I am going to just link to them http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/toriamos/meandagun.html. Its not really hard to figure out the subject matter of that song. Random fact: In 2002, Little Earthquakes was named the 4th greatest album of all time by a female artist by Q magazine. Ten - Pearl Jam Honestly, this is the only album ever that I can say I like all the songs on it. There wasn't one track that left me thinking I could have gotten more out of it. ...And Justice For All - Metallica Just a great album, I don't really have much else to say about it other then that. American Idiot - Green Day I really like this album, even though lots of people I know say that Green Day sold out with it. It has a great story line, and the mental imagery it helps to create for me is outstanding. The Doors - The Doors It has The End and Light My Fire on it. Two of the best songs ever. Jim Morrison was the iconic front man, and his death came way too soon.
Get Behind Me Satan - The White Stripes Arguably one of the best albums of the White Stripes. But it holds a lovely mixture of genres and followed by the simple drum beat of Meg's compiled with Jack's guitar/keyboard. The Denial Twist is the song that does it for me, the best song that they have produced so far. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - The Smashing Pumpkins ..has always been a favourite of mine. Bullet With Butterfly Wings and Zero are the two songs you cannot go wrong with. Once - Nightwish The final album that Tarja Turunen appeared with Nightwish with and one of my favourite albums of all time. Wish I Had an Angel and Planet Hell are two songs that I love. Mer De Noms - A Perfect Circle French for "Sea of Names" it contains my favourite APC song - Judith along with other favourites like Rose and Orestes Frogstomp - Silverchair Just fucking amazing with Tomorrow and Israel's Son
King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King I always heard on prog sites that King Crimson were fucking awesome, but it took me a while to give them a shot. But as soon as I heard this album I (well sort of) ran down to the record shop and bought it. The album features Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull on Flute and what's-his-name from Emerson, Lake and Palmer on vocals. The 5 tracks on this record are up there in my favourites of all time, aside from maybe Moonchild, only because about three quarters of it is random beeps that sound like the ones at train stations in Melbourne. Explosions In The Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place It was the first Post-Rock album I listened to, and it remains my favourite. So much emotion in this one. Guitar twinkling post-rock is everywhere nowadays, but Eits manage to do it so well with this one. Unfortunately the follow up to this album fell quite short. My favourite tracks on the album are the first, First Breath After A Come, and last, Your Hand In Mine. Everyone here would do well to give it a listen. Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile I think i had an orgasm the first time i listened to this one. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon This one took a bit of growing. But when i finally understood it... yeah... FUCK. If you haven't heard this album, please do. It's like all of time led up to this album. This album was sitting in my house for years and I never listened to it. I regret all those years. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral It was either this or Hybrid Theory or In Absentia. And I chose this. Because It's fucking awesome.
Yep, I back you up 200%, man. Personally, I had a hard time trying to do this because I would have probably said all four of their albums. I can still enjoy every one of them from start to finish. FFAF doesn't disappoint me, at least. It's also hard to do this because I listen to a lot of music from different genres and eras, but sometimes I doubt myself when I state that all my favorite albums of all time came out within the last few years. But I digress. Morning View by Incubus is cemented as one of my favorite albums ever. That recording takes me to a different place and time and brings back a lot of memories. I really enjoy listening to the whole thing, it's got a great vibe. Grand Unification by Fightstar is another one of my favorites. Huge, epic album with some really emotional, powerful, beautiful tunes. There's soaring guitars and vocals with badass melodies and everything else that goes with all that. I also really like the artwork that complements each song. Start Something by the Lostprophets. The soundtrack to the golden years of my life so far. I guess I'd also say Hybrid Theory, although I rarely listen to it anymore. And I can't decide which album by Minus the Bear, or Nine Inch Nails. It's all good.
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory. Pleymo - Medecine Cake. System of a Down - Toxicity. Blink-182 - Enema of the State Eminem - The Marshall Mathers lp.
I think we should just collect the nominees here and then put them up in one big poll where everybody could pick one or two. And then when it's narrowed down, make another poll when we vote again and so on until we come to top 10 or 20 or whatever.
1. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory Reason: It was strange for me because the first Linkin Park album, in fact the first ever album I got into was Meteora. But a few months later, I finally purchased Hybrid Theory and I wasn't disappointed. Awesome track followed by awesome track. I loved the fusion of rap, rock and eletronica all interspersed into one, evolving the album into the ever so popular (at the time) nu-metal genre. The way both Chester and Mike fit so well together is surreal; with Mike's addictive raps and Chester's raspy yet beautiful voice. And of course, this album features my all-time favourite Linkin Park track, A Place For My Head. There is never a dull moment on this masterpiece of an album with fast, energetic and catchy songs that will remain in your head for the rest of your life. And the slower songs on the album are absolutely beautiful. Take Pushing Me Away as a prime example. Astonishing album and the absolute best from Linkin Park. Favourite Tracks: Papercut, Crawling, In The End, A Place For My Head & Pushing Me Away 1. The Rasmus - Black Roses Reason: Dead Letters was my favourite album from Finland's finest. But that soon changed when they released Black Roses in September 2008. This is by far their best effort and you can tell with what they went through to create this masterpiece. Desmond Child helped them along the way as they tried different and unique procedures to make this all-important album. With influences of alternative rock, 80's rock, electronica, pop, dance, funk and western rock. This was a very diverse album from their other efforts. Amazing lyrics, fascinatic vocals and some very catchy songs. Each track sounds unique in its own way. Favourite Tracks: Ghost Of Love, Your Forgiveness, Lost And Lonely, The Fight & Dangerous Kind 3. Innerpartysystem - Innerpartysystem Reason: Can't stop listening to this album. I am very impressed with it! This debut, self-titled album keeps my attention all the way through. Each track has something special about it. You have songs with much more distinguished loud guitars, while other tracks soar with dance rhythms and clear electronica sounds. Also contains a mixture of slow and fast songs, which further benefit the album as a whole. Some songs outperform others with the incredible build up towards the end of certain tracks; that Innerpartysystem have perfected well here. Solid debut album! Favourite Tracks: Die Tonight, Live Forever, Don't Stop, Structure, Obsession & This Town, Your Grave 4. Alter Bridge - Blackbird Reason: Much more refreshing from their first album. This actually makes them sound like Alter Bridge and not Creed Part II. This album blasts in an uproar of catchy and energetic rock songs. The guitar solos are immense in various tracks and the ballad songs also help stick out. Blackbird in my opinion, is the real standout track on the album. The build up throughout the track with beautifyl lyrics, amazing singing from Myles Kennedy and the uplifting feeling this song provides towards the end makes this track and the entire album impeccable. Favourite Tracks: Ties That Bind, Brand New Start, Rise Today, Blackbird & Wayward One 5. Atreyu - Lead Sails Paper Anchor Reason: Not really listened to much of their earlier stuff but after listening to a few tracks from their latest album, I had to get it immediately. I couldn't stop playing this for a good part of a year. I love the way they have converted their sound completely in this with a mixture of old and new. It really works here with some heavy metal tracks that pound through your ears at thunderous force. Or some fantastic slow, more refined ballad tracks where you can really appreciate the instruments they use. A really catchy album from Atreyu and I believe if they maintain this sound, it will benefit them in the long run. Favourite Tracks: Lose It, When Two Are One, Can't Happen Here, Slow Burn & Blow Honorable Mentions: Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight Linkin Park - Meteora Slipknot - All Hope Is Gone Nickelback - Silver Side Up Nickelback - Dark Horse As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us Ill Niño - One Nation Underground The Rasmus - Dead Letters Funeral For A Friend - Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation Staind - Break The Cycle Breed 77 - Cultura
The Smashing Pumpkins- Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness The Killers- Hot Fuss The Fall of Troy- Manipulator Incubus-Make Yourself My Bloody Valentine-Loveless these albums are pretty self-explanatory, every song on these albums are awesome, not a single filler song in all of them!
sorry for another post, but add: Thrice - The Artist In The Ambulance to my mentions and therefore to the votings
I think i'll do that, actually. If you want to vote, get it in within the next few hours, because i'm gonna start the poll soon.
My "Big Three" ... Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon With all due respect to The Who's Tommy, this album is really what made concept albums as vastly popular as they are today. The album covers a wide variety of genres, from laid-back jazz (Breathe) to funk (Any Colour You Like), electronic madness (On the Run) to precursors to power ballads (Us and Them). And musically, it showcases the multiple talents of all the band's members, as well as Dick Parry's saxophone talents on "Us and Them" and "Money," and of course Clare Torry's unforgettable vocal display on "The Great Gig in the Sky." This album was on the Billboard charts for something like 19 years I think? There's good reason for that. KISS - Alive! What Pink Floyd did for concept albums, KISS did the same for live albums with this record. KISS had released 3 studio albums at this point in their career, none of which had sold particularly well, and their label, Casablanca Records, was on the verge of going out of business. Despite poor record sales, KISS were gaining a reputation as being one of the most over-the-top live acts of their day. Despite live albums never being big sellers in the past, the band went ahead and recorded a double live album using material from 4 cities on their 1975 United States tour. The end result? An album that charted in the Top 10, went multi-platinum, launched the band to superstardom, saved their record label, and along with Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive, spawned dozens of successful live albums from other bands. Despite all the controversy about the amount of overdubbing and how "live" the album actually was, it still captures a great live band at the top of their game. Metallica - Master of Puppets Metallica already had two fantastic albums under their belt at this point, but this one took the cake. It had better sound quality than the first two albums (as well as it's successor, ...And Justice For All), and every song on it just kicks ass. Every metal band around today owes their existence, at least in part, to this album.
I agree. Thus, my list: Funeral for a Friend's Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation Thrice's The Artist in the Ambulance Underoath's (They're Only Chasing Safety) Mayday Parade's A Lesson in Romantics Paramore's Riot!
Blink-182 - Enema of the State 30 Seconds to Mars - A Beautiful Lie Green Day - Dookie Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends Sublime - Sublime Im not sure if these are my favorites, but they are the ones I ended up with when trying to decided between like 30 haha
