The video is sort of lame. The concepts have been done before. This is not their best single either. Hmm...perhaps it will grow on me.
I reckon he looks like Anthony from the Chili Peppers now But yeah the video seems kinda like Linkin Park's videos for Numb and From The Inside put together.
I agree. All I have to say is what happened to Lostprophets? This new song is terrible. Sorry to Mark, Dean and whoever but I agree with most that they sound like every other MTV band out there now with the vocals. And Joe knows exactly what I'm trying to say.
I don't see how they've changed their vocals. They don't sound different from anything that was on Start Something at all. I don't like the lyrics too much, but the song overall is fantastic. Like Mark said, if "Rooftops" is one of the worst songs on their new album, then it's going to be a great album.
Likewise. I don't think Ian's vocals have changed much at all. And besides, I think saying a band's sound has completely changed by basing your assumptions on their first single is faulty. Do that once you hear the full album. What "MTV bands" do they sound like, Derek? Everybody needs to stop being so trigger-happy with the term "emo".
I don't think they're emo, I just don't think the single's good. It's missing something from the "Start Something" album.
Mmhmm. I love songs like "We Still Kill The Old Way" and "Start Something" that have screaming, and that's something that's missing from this song. But some of the songs on the album should re-incorporate that. Nevertheless, I like this song alot. It's different yet familiar.
It's because Ian now sounds progressively whinier and the instrumentation is not half as good as Start Something. I don't want to really start an arguement or shit on someone's musical taste but I'm gonna side with Joe when I say by going MTV..they've gone emo. And not the good emo either.
The chorus just seems so radio-orientated, like it was written to be a catchy radio hit. I just hope the rest of the album is better than this.
It's a good, straightforward rock song, and if you're referring to their hair when you call them emo, then they've been 'emo' for a while now. As for the vocals, what I meant was I prefer it when Ian is singing more softly like he does in the verses. Now that I've gone back to Start Something I can agree that he doesn't sound very different, if at all.
It's not just the hair that makes them "emo", they have been progressively changing since the release of "Fake Sound Of Progress". "Start Something" was borderline emo with the way they dressed in the videos by the end of the singles they released. Now they look completely emo, have cover art that looks emo & it's not that they even sound emo, they just sound whiney. Yes, I'm trying not to be too trigger-happy on the word emo but it's the only word to describe what they've changed into.
I suppose I see what you mean, but from now on I'll be reserving my judgement until the album is released.
You're both still classifying them as "emo" by judging one song; a single at that. Listen to the full album before banishing them. I don't hear them as sounding any less whiney as Linkin Park were on "Somewhere I Belong". And classiying art, of all things, as emo is ridiculous.
Like I said, I'm not basing them as "emo" on how they sound, it's how they look and have changed over the years. Get a shot from the "Shinobi Vs Dragon Ninja" video & put it next to "Rooftops" & you'll see the difference. ...and yeah, calling album art "emo" may be ridiculous but what else would you call the overdone / cliché "blood splatter" effect?
If you go to their myspace and have a look at there blogs they are saying that this single is different to most of the stuff on the album. Also like i think was said on the first page they where planning to make a trilogy (sp?) from their videos but couldn't afford it.
I don't understand how you people think his voice has changed so drastically. It doesn't sound any different to me at all. They were always Whiney, it's just not annoying.
I don't see the whole point of focusing on their looks. And classifying the band as emo because of how they look is faulty when the music they're playing isn't even what most call "emo". Sorry, I've got a huge problem with that term because people overgeneralize it's definition. I wish the term didn't even exist. Too many people (not saying youdo) use it as a derogatory term and I think it's such a lame word to describe something. Damn pop culture, media-created lingo. I could say the same thing about "emo" art about your signature with what looks like blood on the ground. It's cover art, it's not meant to be labelled as a specific genre. If that was the case, I'd be critiquing the 'With Teeth' cover as abstract and the 'Hybrid Theory' cover as mixed media without knowing what I'm talking about. Let's let the music do the talking. Lots of bands nowadays have members with long black hair. It's a trend, big deal. Nothing to get bent out of shape over when it's music they're making first and foremost. I will say that the video is horribly cliché, though.
