    1. An album released in 2007 could not sell as well as an album in 2000, music industry is soooo different these days with P2P websites and illegal downloads, it wasn't the case when HT and Meteora were released.

    2. Commercial success of an album is not a proof of its brilliance, if it was, then Rihanna and Pussycat Dolls would have been two of the most brilliant musicians of our time.

Yes. The lyrics in my opinion are some of LP's best. Ever since we got that message where the missing letters formed "the catalyst" i knew this song in particular, and perhaps the whole album, was going to be a transformation for LP lyrically. MTM began to break those barriers and i think ATS will put them on a whole new level of epicness. I can only imagine what lyrics to songs like Fallout or When They Come For Me will be...

While I agree with some of what you said (the success that HT and Meteora had was tremendous) the band has said that they do not want to do that anymore. They're older, moved on with their lives, are in totally different places mentally, spiritually, emotionally, etc.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE those 2 cd's and i think no matter what HT will especially always hold a place in my heart but the guys want to make music that THEY want to make, not what someone else wants. As long as its creative and original and you listen to it with no expectations, it will be a good experience.

This is why change is good. Linkin Park are never going back to their old sound, and I couldn't be happier. Hybrid Theory was great, but the old sound was already getting stale by the time Meteora came about.

I've become such a cynic of Linkin Park over the last few years. I can barely stand listening to their old stuff, much less the mess that was Minutes to Midnight. But this, finally, sounds decent. Something good lyrically. Progressive. Electronic. Thanks, LP. Thanks for finally putting the suck pipe down.

Thanks to Chester for not making this sound like Dead By Sunrise.

I hope to hear a lot more of Mike rapping and singing, as that's really the only thing that I liked about M2M.

I can't judge this song fully, yet, but my interest is piqued.

I understand completely why LP wanted to change. They wanted to break away from a sound that was getting stale. I think Hybrid Theory and Meteora are great and all, but I swear if i heard a trilogy of the same exact thing over and over, it would turn me away from the band completely, and make me think that their current sound is all they can do. Minutes to Midnight seems to prove to me that LP can change and that change is for the better. Im excited to hear more of The Catalyst, and if it turns away more fans because of how different is, then so be it. LP can make whatever music they want for all I care. As long as it sounds great to me, then I will be fine with that.

They are making music. They are musicians. They need changes.

Does anyone know what art is anymore?

    Seriously?

These guys are making art and it's what they feel.

Anyone who truly thinks LP was at their best back then dissolves all and any respect from me.

People can debate all they want about Linkin Park changing....all I'm going to say is that I can't wait to get my hands on The Catalyst by hopefully even this weekend!

I think they wanted to make music not regarding what their fans wanted but what the members themselves wanted to hear as a musician. As mentioned above, they can easily make another HT-ish album and make a fortune, but that in the end, isn't what they are looking for.

Exactly, a true artist makes music for their own heart, not for what their fans would want them to make. It's not difficult to understand this new sound is much more artistic, diverse, unpredictable and enjoyable than the verse-chorus-bridge-chorus simplicity of their old sound. HT was a great Nu Metal record, but it was great for its own era. This is a different era, and they're making different music now.

    I just want another Meteora!

Okay, someone punch me in the face and pull my tongue out 'cause I shouldn't even be joking about wanting such another bland album.

Indeed, why do they want to make something different?.. Hmm...
Maybe because they feel tired from the old stuff?
    Just a guess.

    They are LINKIN PARK.
They don't ever define themselves as blah blah blah...
What they make, is LINKIN PARK-ish.

I feel like if they were to ever make another album like HT and Meteora...perhaps some fans will love it but most people will severely criticize Linkin park for doing something like that again.

I just hate how most media outlets still refer to them as a nu-metal band, hahaha. They have no idea what they're talking about.

I think the band realizes that no matter what they do someone will be unhappy and unsatisfied, so they say screw it we'll do what we want and if you dont like then you can kick rocks.

Wow wtf LP, you made another nu-metal HT-ish album?!? Grow some balls and make something different!
    or
Wow wtf LP, you made an album thats totally different and abandoned what made you successful?!? Stop being over ambitious and stick to what you know!

Theres always gonna be someone unhappy..

It's so damn easy to explain the change of art.
There is one Mona Lisa, and it's epic, it's famous, it's beautiful, and become one of Da Vinci's most famous pieces.
Now, imagine Da Vinci spent rest of his life creating Mosa Lino, Nosa Moli, Sali Mono, will there be the Mona Lisa hanging in the Lourve Museum? NO.

Because if you don't re-define yourself in the music business, you die. You can't be releasing the same stuff for an eternity. Every band goes through an evolution process, trying to release something different after they have exhausted their initial ideas. Look at Thrice for example, they started out post-hardcore/hardcore punk, and after their third studio album, they released something completely different, containing the same vibe as their debut. Then, with the Alchemy Index, they tried everything from electronica to folk. It's one thing for an album to go platinum, gold, etc and another thing for an album to contain some really good songs, that show how much the band has evolved musically. For me, platinum, gold, silver really doesn't matter, as long as the music is good.
