^Absolutely hate it. I really don't why lyrics of LGM and STB get so much hate. I think ''choke on your lies'' is brilliant, and STB really has awesome lyrics. Plus, they're both amazing tracks.
The problem with STB's lyrics for me would be the fact that it appears to be repetitive. Needs to be a bit more varied.
Even so, that's the point of the song. It is about repetition, and gradualness. That's all I'm saying.
Not if it sounds incredible. CoG is also repetitive but it's still one of my favorite tracks ever. I love how the lyrics in STB show some contrast: ''Night to day, day to night'' or ''Right to left, left to right''. To me, it speaks about two people just not meant to be together.
STB and LGM are great songs, but they aren't songs I'd listen to every day. I'm not always so pissed off or... I don't know, depressed? The best lyrics are on RU, CoG, Victimized and UIB (LOVE the rap parts)
That's an interesting way to put it! I haven't thought of it that way. To me, that verse evokes imagery of a soldier marching through a vast emptiness to get to his destination, dragging his feet right to left, left to right, walking all day and all night. "As the starlight fades to grey, I'll be marching far away." It seems to be a metaphor for someone trying hard to reach their goal but ultimately getting nowhere, thus the repetition of the lines.
^Could be, now that I think about it, it's very literal. But really, not every LP song nowadays is about soldiers and war.
I don't like most of the lyrics on LT, to be honest. I think they've had much better moments on other albums, lyrically. There are a few moments I like, such as the chorus from IBG and a couple of lines here and there, but overall, imo the lyrics on this album are pretty weak and not the highlight of the record at all. Edit: Also, I think Brad's part on UIB is great!
I actually don't find many of their songs to be about soldiers, to be honest. This one in particular, yes, but not songs like IBG or WFTE like others have speculated. Edit: Actually, my only reasoning for the person walking along the vast emptiness being a soldier is the fact that they used the word "marching" rather than "walking" or "crawling" or some other method of locomotion. If they used any other word then I probably would have had a different image in my mind, but "marching" really does bring to mind a soldier in particular.
I can see why people connect their songs to those topics, but I can't really hear lyrics that talk about exactly that, the lyrics are really ''layered'' in meaning, as Mike said. And yeah, it's weird how just one song can give the song a meaning. I don't really try to understand their lyrics at most times, but I overall like them. I like how they're dark and meaningful.
That might sounds stupid, especially since it's my only input in this thread so far, but I kind of like the "You did it to yourself" line in LGM It's just the perfect "getting rid its negative energy" line for me, a good way to be more peaceful after a long stressfull work day...if that makes sense lol In terms of more deep lyrics, I especially like those in COG.
I always thought it'd be good if the singing part before screaming was ''don't do it to yourself'' and then he just starts screaming ''you did it to yourself!'' into that chorus.
