I don't think you can just walk around a stage singing Hit Me Baby One More Time. It's just not ethical.

In rock you can do that, but in Pop...dancing is necessary. Without it, it's just a "hot" woman singing a song, instead of a "hot" woman singing the song, and dancing sexually.

    Or something.

Then again, running around the stage can make a person go out of breath just as easily, though.

Who cares, really? If you were offered millions to lip-synch a song, are you telling me you wouldn't take that deal?

    Bullshit.

katethegreat has a point, but still it's kinda pointless. They could do a little less dancing and spend more time on the voice, thats the point of music, not to show off your dance moves and stuff, plus the dance moves are memorized, the last time I tried, if I have it memorized and I've done it before, it's not as hard, and tiring, think of it like as running.

That's what's so much better about rock bands.. they never lip synch like those pop people who can't sing at all.

Well let me put it this way, Britney Spears has a reason to lip synch. She dances and gives a great performance. But, Hilary Duff <--- well that's a whole other story. It's bad enough she lip synch's but she doesn't even dance or do anything.

Either that or they're better at hiding it :p

And yeah, in responce to what Casey said...none of us will ever be offered a million dollars to dance around and lip synch, so naturally we have to bitch about the people who do ;)

And yeah, Ashlee Simpson doesn't dance much, does she? She made this big deal about being a rocker chick...

And they call Avril Lavigne a poser. Well, now you all know who the real poser is. (Ashlee Simpson)

Oh by the way I have a question: Didn't Ashlee Simpson used to be a back up dancer for her sister?

I see your point, but what is more important...dancing or singing? With you being in theatre, these too are equally important but....they are supposed to be musicians! I'd rather have an artist that sang really well with dancers behind her doing all the moves.

Artists shouldn't sacrifice the music for flashy dance moves, thats what the dancers are for....and music videos. But live concerts aren't unrecorded music videos, they are unique performances that aren't meant to be utterly formulaic...they could program a computer to do the exact same thing on a program and it would be a lot better than their live shows

And for some, they just can't sing...its pathetic! If you can't sing, HOW could you sell a million records? Its beyond me

Plus i've seen artists like Mikael of Opeth singing (singing, ot screaming), headbanging and playing the guitar at the same time. Album quality, no play backs.

Verdict: he is musically educated, he didn't sell Opeth's records by showing his breasts.

lol. Hey my hair is mostly black naturally. I guess im a rocker too! :chaz:
Another thing about her. I was going through the channels once on TV while I was taking a brake from homework and I stoped on MTV while she was stating that she wanted to make music not like her sisters...not all pop-like..but rock music. If you ask me, thats the most pop sounding rock music I've EVER heard. To tell you the truth I dont hear the diffrent between her style and her sisters. Hows her music less pop?

Well, unlike you, I do see a difference in their style. I mean they're both "pop", but their styles (the way they sing and sound) are different.
Anyway, let's not get off topic. We know that Ashlee lip synches (sometimes), but what about her sister, Jessica? The last time I saw her preform on TV she was singing for real. I think she always has since her recent album. But what about when she was younger?

    Exactly.

But Amy Lee from Evanescence and Avril Lavigne don't sound good in live concerts and they don't do anything!

Dance moves are indeed memorized, or most are. Still, there's no escaping that it's tiring. You try doing a Latin dance like the salsa or cha-cha and singing in your upper register at the same time.

Pop music is characterized by the dance that goes with it. True, there's a point where they're focusing too much on dance, and have to lip synch, but if that's what you were known for, wouldn't you be dancing and lip synching too? I'm not exactly justifying it, but seriously folks. If your options were lip synch, or not appear at all, what would you do? I know I'd probably lip synch. At least I can admit it.

    Edit: I love spurring debate.

I won't admit it because I don't like Pop music.

    I used to though.

I remember saying WOW that's so cool and I'd try sing and dance like that (yes exactly like that I used to take lessons wanted to lose weight)and I did it for a friend's party.
BTW it was a 4 minute song.

But, yes, if I did it for an hour I would have to lip synch.
