I don't think anything comes before the entire outfit's artistic ambitions, and that has always been a very high bar. Whatever caliber it is, it's going to be high quality that's true to their entirety. Maybe they scouted big fans that are crazy talented, simply for celebration of year 25. I've been seeing a lot of solid covers, lately. If they did that, I'd also assume that they were in their spirit of "Live is our chance to get creative with our material." Which would separate it from simply being kind of sorrowful reminiscing. Because I don't think they'd look for anyone who just clicks by meeting them 100% of the way to their aim as it was with Chester. They'd probably look for someone they could get excited to work with and meet part-way in all processes. Feeling like this is understood about them among their most flexible fans is the reason I'm confident that they're a band capable of meaningful moves and evolutions even after Chester. Whatever this is, it's going to be cool.
https://x.com/sum41/status/1828174293177639340?s=46 This would also make sense why Sum 41 called it quits out of seemingly nowhere Sum 41 seemingly quit out of nowhere I would say. Their final tour ends this year? Deryck has an incredible voice and would be a great new singer for Linkin Park. It’s so weird that Deryck specifically (not all of Sum 41) has an announcement the same morning that Linkin Park does.
Dear God, no. No offense to Deryck and his talent (of which he has a lot), but it's such a BORING decision that Meteora feels more entertaining by comparison.
Yeah Deryck is cool and I loved his version of the The Catalyst during the tribute show. BUT he's just not exciting as a choice and, ESPECIALLY, a choice like him would play directly into the "trying to replace Chester" feeling. I'm all for the female vocalist rumors that's been going around for a while. It switches up the dynamic so much that the comparisons to Chester just cannot happen in a lot of scenarios. I guess we'll see.
Deryck did say a couple years back that replacing Chester would be an impossible task. This would be a big surprise to me. https://digital.abcaudio.com/news/s...g-chester-bennington-would-be-impossible-task
I wouldn't mind a choice for a singer in that direction. It's not a direct copy but if you squint your eyes you maybe get the feeling you're looking at the same kind of band with the same kind of musical options. Big audiences at this point probably just want to sing and scream Numb, In The End and Breaking The Habit. Or maybe they can get a country singer and make an album / show just with hats, boots and cows. That seems to be a thing now.
What if this isn’t a permanent thing but just some festival headline slots with Deryck filling in for those shows?
I am cautiously optimistic. A reunion would be great, but I am not sure about a new singer as a replacement. Chester will always be so iconic to us all and a replacement, however amazing they might be, would always be compared to him. But I'll be watching what they might be cooking
It's probably not Deryck. Another major theory is about Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara, who got suspicious likes and follows from Mike, Anna ecc...
Nice voice and performance live, gives me some serious 90's vibes. Would be curious as to how that would work out.
Am I in the wrong for thinking a future setlist could look like anything? I told people on Reddit they’d have to cut One Step Closer from the setlist or heavily alter the song for performances if someone like Deryck was their new singer or any new singer that couldn’t really scream like Chester. I know they’ve played One Step Closer at like every show but I feel like the setlists could look like anything going forward. Am I crazy? I’m getting a ton of downvotes on Reddit. we don’t know what the setlist or future will look like.
