On UK itunes Heavy is the 17th bestselling single at the moment and One more light is the 2nd bestselling pre order in albums. Its great to see for the guys
I had a feeling about when I listened to it for about the 3rd or 4th time that this song was going to be huge. I know not everyone loves the song, but this is shaping up to possibly be one of their biggest hits.
Nahh, i understand you. Its honestly not the direction i want em to choose, but i try to enjoy it. Its not everyones taste for sure, but its not the point to like all songs of a band, right?
I know so many people who have never been huge LP fans listening to this song over and over and really loving it.
I honestly like the live version of Heavy about ten times more than the studio release. The "radio polish" of the song is replaced with a soul and a really grounded vibe that suits the lyrical content very well. That piano interspersed with Brad's picking just creates a beautiful little depth to the song. I kind of wish that was the studio version.
So pleased for the guys that it's shaping up to do so well commercially. They are obviously very proud of it. Even if I wasn't digging the new music, I would still want the band to be succesful in everything they do because they are great people that I admire and respect. I would NEVER question their integrity or motives or just generally insult them like some so called "fans" have been doing from behind their keyboards on social media.
Ok, I've listened to the song enough now to make a fair vote. It went from a 1/10 at first listen to a decent -------> 7/10 after like 15 times of listening to it (to be honest, it's better than Lies Greed & Misery and Keys to the Kingdom IMHO). It's an alright song, hated what Chester sounded like at first, but I can give this song a good R&B chill-out headbang. It's chill. Definitely looking forward to the album. The instrumental at the end of the song definitely sounds ATS-like. This is probably the most poppy song Mike meant. At first it was a shock but I got used to the song. I'm glad it's charting. It's a good pop radio friendly song and I'm sure it will win the hearts of many people (mostly people that did not listen to LP before) but I like it.
Did anyone here notice how seamlessly the guitar transitions into the violin at the very end of the song? That's some great music arranging, I must say.
Dude you're my friend and all, and I love the stuff you do for AltWire. Hell, I'd argue you are one of our best writers... ...but I mean no harm in saying this: aren't you being a tad melodramatic with these posts? It's just one song...or one album for that matter.
I dig majority of their demos and instrumentals from LPU cd's but not ''Heavy''. Some of them totally outshines new single in terms of complexity, sound and emotions. I'm still shocked that band who's been around for about 20 years released something like this as a lead single from studio album.
Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" just logged it's 6th week at #1. My dream would be for "Heavy" to knock it off that spot!
Plus I would be very surprised if the whole album was like this in terms of ambition and song structure. That's not the Mike we know.
