Well, this got me thinking. Would it be a good ideia for them to stick to a genre for a while right now? After experimenting that much, trying to follow a path may be the new "surprise". Right now we are always waiting for them to release something very different than before, this takes the "blew" effect away (as it was with MTM/ATS). This does always put the expectations very high. But if they do 2 or 3 albums following a style, then they can release a new experimental piece and get us really hard. If everything is a surprise, then nothing is a surprise. We need to live in a routine to valorize the special things that happen in our day. If we eat rice every day and in the weekend we have an epic pizza, the pizza tastes amazing. But if we have pizza everyday (even if pizza is very nice), when the weekend comes having a pizza will not be so special. Right now LP is trying to feed us with an unexpected epic food everyday, but i'm questioning myself if it wouldn't be better next to keep a routine eating a 5/7 rice for a while and then be amazed by some 10/10 pizza again after some time.
Yeah you definitely have a good point. I wonder if they're growing weary of always having to change or reinvent themselves every album cycle. It's not that they had to, or that the fans ever demanded it...it's just after MTM they set forth on a path to constantly evolve themselves, and it lead to an expectation by the fans (and even the band themselves) for each album to always be different. It would be interesting if the band created a 'core' sound to utilize for a few albums.
One thing I've wanted the band to do for a while, and I hoped it would happen with THP. If you have a new sound, if what you're bringing is so different, then really change everything. Yeah, the Linkin Park logo looks fucking great, maybe that's one thing that should stay, but the artwork got stale as fuck last time. As majestic it was, it was like... why didn't you stick to the drawings? They were so much more in line with the album sound. I wish they'd change the font and the visual aesthetic of the band.
The only LPU versions I missed was 8 and 15. I didn't like 8 because I thought the CD included with that package was a joke. And I didn't get 15 because I felt the price no longer reflected the merchandise you were getting. Plus the shipping costs are painfully high. We'll see what 16 is like...
I'm just hoping we get some good stories in these songs. So much emphasis has been put on the lyrics this time around, so I'll be disappointed if Mike is trying to battle rap about how bad he is or if Chester is crying about his feelings like he just shit his pants. Maybe I've just been listening to Thrice too much.
Personally, I've heard the band promise great lyrics before but I'm truly expecting good things this time. Regarding the fan club, I had a good experience, for the most part, with my digital membership this year. I'll probably be happy to renew. It'll be interesting getting demos that led towards the new album before getting the album itself
Pretty much this. The guys have put pressure on themselves to produce an album filled with great lyrical content, it will be interesting to see what they're really capable of. I do not expect to see the words lie or lies at any point, instant fail if I do.
So, no more one song every 2 mouths for LPU. Very curious about that one cause it'll have some demo from the new upcoming album D:
The band have done great lyrics before. ATS was full of them, and Devil's Drop was a pretty decent song lyrically too. Considering the band has been working with songwriters, the album will probably be pretty decent on that front. I wouldn't expect these songs to be Bohemian Rhapsody or Dream On quality...but they'll certainly more than pass in the lyric department.
I've always waited for a linkin park record that really sounded almost completely outside the LP sound... and I remember Chester saying in the 45 min fb video that they had to pull back a little bit to prevent over performance. With all the other past records, regardless of Sound they still kept that "LP" sound in it. I really hope that this one truly steps outside of that, even if it's just a little bit. I want to be shocked the moment I hear this record.
Also really interested to learn the album title. I mean, with all this emphasis on lyrics, you'd imagine they'll come up with a few cool sounding words.
Well believe me, when I do my early review for AltWire...you'll know right away how different the album is because if I'm shocked, I'm gonna be pretty vocal about that .
I like the "MALL" songs in general, and, sonically, that's kind of what I'm expecting on the next LP album
For me the MALL songs felt unfinished. There are great "raw" songs out there, but those felt missing something.
