Sure, from a career standpoint it can be deemed 'risky' but sonically speaking, pop is the last thing that comes to my mind when someone mentions 'risky music'. Moreover, they've already done a cookie-cutter pop record called Living Things.
The band was always on the poppy side of rock music. The only time when they were not was during THP. Also, guys, why are you even complaining about songs you haven't even heard yet? Let them AT LEAST release the first song before you all start judging.
Wow, I just read through the whole thread I forgot how much Mike is revered as a guy who can do no wrong. Last album, he convinced all the fans that rock was dead and we needed to revive it (using music that was so derivative some of it was straight up kitsch). This time, he's convincing people that making pop music is an artistic risk. Linkin Park. Making pop music. Risky. Let's at least hope it's good music.
Mike Shinoda has never done anything disappointing. Mike was completely right about THP bringing rock back! It saved the genre from extinction and eliminated CHVRCHES from the history books! Like Oppenheimer predicted and stated on "The Radiance," "Shinoda takes on his legend-in -three games form and says, "Now I have become rock, destroyer of pop." I suppose we all thought that, one way or another."
THP is my least fave album. I can't stand how horribly mixed and muddled majority of the tracks. By saying, "We did it on purpose because we want the aesthetic of the tape quality" tape quality my ass! That's not a valid excuse.
That would suck. I think they should get rid of the old stuff. I mean, I consider they're hypocrites on saying that they want to evolve and all that shit but when it comes to live shows it seems like they are touring for Hybrid Theory and Meteora promo instead of promoting the new album. They can include 2 or 3 songs each for HT, Meteora and MTM. And then you have enough room for recent stuff. I hope someday they try to do this. You sir, made my day
Just to take the risk, the band could be making up this 8-letter thing as they go along. Maybe they're holding little meetings to determine what letter to put next I agree so much with this. The band should be taking risks with the live show too ... maybe by playing the songs off the latest album they're promoting
Regardless of how stupid it makes their marketing sound, I feel it's gonna be at least fun to play their last 2 records one after another when this one is released.
Maybe if we keep bitching about the live shows then they will start playing their new shit. We all bitched for demos and stuff on the LPU discs and we eventually got that.
It's not really that vague actually. "The poppiest thing that comes to mind" is pretty straightforward.
I would love to hear some autotune on this. Like Mike did with "Cigarettes" at those live Fort Minor shows in 2015. Would be dope imo.
When I think of Carly Rae Jepson, you may think of The Weeknd. Or Lady Gaga. Or Bruno Mars. Or The Chainsmokers. Etc. That's a pretty wide spread.
Yeah, different people listen to different pop music (whether or not they admit it) and there's more variety now than ever before.
