Yeah, it'd suck if they like, said they were tired of playing it safe and made an album that was the embodiment of that, then decided on the next album they were going to go back to their "toolbox" and make firecracker hits. Then only half of them were firecrackers. It'd also really suck if they said an album, say, The Hunting Party, was made to be played live and then they only played like 5 songs off the album. Such hypocrites. Have you heard LIVING THINGS?
If they don't start playing KTTK or War live I'm gonna lose my mind. I mean, WHY would you make such a killer punk rock jam like War and then don't play it live? WHY.
Unfortunately, they are going to want everyone to forget about THP as soon as this album comes out, IMO.
I seriously hope we get an acapellas and instrumentals album again with this. Also, I'd love LP to do some ambient music, just some synths and vocals.
The hunting party is my least favorite linkin park record to date , I think the band themselves wanted to forget that they made this record in the first place , that's why they didn't play most of the songs .
Can't tell whether you're saying that ATS was or wasn't playing it safe haha. I think you missed the word "almost".
For a band that said on their last record that rock wasn't visceral enough, and who got famous being a 'hard rock' band...it kind of is. Although Linkin Park have always had a pop element to them so it's not as risky as it could be.
And what is more, they have a pretty divided fanbase. While I would enjoy a good pop record, many of their fans wouldn't. Yes, one could argue that a few Top 20 singles will bring enough new fans to make up for those that drifted away from the band, but how can Linkin Park be sure of the success of LP7? I'm not saying the number of fans is the most important thing for them, but a pop record is still a huge risk, especially if it turns out not to be popular with the general public.
I'd prefer for topics to be fleshed out. Less generic metaphors etc. More nouns and ideas being said. Some say that takes way subtlety but idgaf. Hands Held High is a perfect example of a song that has a clear message and clear lyrics. Maybe storytelling like Across the Line or Carousel would be nice too.
The only AMAZING thing in all THP era was the James Jean/Ghost Town Media artwork and visuals. They delivered a very good job!!!
Well we are talking about a band that released a heavy record without promotion or marketing whatsoever ,So making a pop record would be like the safer choice commercially because even If it didn't do well , It most likely wouldn't be WORSE than THP because it probably will be backed up by a LOT of mainstream airplay . The only way you could consider a "pop" record a risk If you are unsure how your fanbase will perceive the album and that's the case for linkin park. I would just say that sales is an important thing but also reception is even more important . Many hugely successful records haven't aged that well because it was simply misunderstood or just plain terrible in the public eye .
christ dude i think mark knows about the graves at this point, he doesn't need every linkin park fan reminding him
Agreed. I fully expect LP's setlists on this album cycle to consist of the singles from the new album, a bunch of Hybrid Theory/Meteora/MTM hits, New Divide, and nothing from ATS/Living Things/THP other than Burn it Down.
