Another song about "letting go"? Sorry but is LP not realising that half their songs since Minutes to Midnight has been about moving on and letting go of something in the past. It's getting a little trivial. Maybe it's an awesome song though, I just feel like I've heard those lyrics from LP a thousand times already.
Eh, if we're talking their earlier stuff, then maybe. But their last three albums are carbon copies of eachother, with each song being a vague story without a clear vision or theme. Usually has something to do with "giving up, giving in", "not breaking", "staying alive" etc etc. Ben on his own is not a good lyricist. But agreed, still a very early look into the writing process. We'll have to wait and see how this stacks up.
"I've heard it said a thousand times, but now I know....." Too early to judge the lyrics imo. The lead single is never likely to be super deep anyway.
To be fair, this is most likely the chorus of the song. A chorus is usually pretty simple and repetitive (embodies the theme) while the meat of the song is in the verses. This rule is also generally true for Linkin Park. For example: Burn it Down Chorus We're building it up To break it back down We can't wait To burn it to the ground Vs. Verses The cycle repeated As explosions broke in the sky All that I needed Was the one thing I couldn't find + The colors conflicted As the flames climbed into the clouds. I wanted to fix this But couldn't stop from tearing it down. Or Victimized Chorus Victimized, victimized, never again victimized Victimized, victimized, never again victimized Verses They're acting like they want a riot, it's a riot I'll give them As the sound climbs higher on this violent rhythm For you snakes in the grass, supplying the venom I ain't scared of your teeth, I admire what's in em
I wish LP lyrics weren't so vague. Mention stuff. Instead of "something is making me feel like this" type of lyrics, use more descriptive lyrics. Mention places, everyday objects etc, I don't know. Mike's rap verses have stuff like that but the singing never does. Something like "gotta get swole I feel it in my soul, gotta get dem gainz to ease the pain. Gotta get my pump on or else I'm gone". Those are real lyrics right there
So I suppose we can expect snippets Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with the day after the 8th clip releases being the day Heavy is supposed to hit radio.
Linkin Park has always been more about the universal emotions and themes rather than the specific. Probably why their songs are so popular worldwide. The reason ATS was so great is because these universal emotions felt grounded in something real and tangible, contextualized by the different speeches throughout the record. I hope we at least get some of that on this album as well, or more direct stories like Devil's Drop. However, sometimes Linkin Park pulls off the more vague or metaphorically driven songs off really well (Until It Breaks, Castle Of Glass, Roads Untraveled).
I like the verses because of the imagery and concepts explored. They are at least objectively more interesting than the chorus, lol.
The URL could very well say "one month". Think about it - if the triple 7 theory is correct, then the 8th teaser drops on the 20th of February (considering that the teasers will drop on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays). The single itself will gradually be released on the 21st. So on the 20th of Feb, the URL might say "one month", which will indicate the album release one month from the 20th of Feb...which is the 20th of March...which is also Chester's birthday. And speaking of birthdays, remember when LP uploaded a picture of Rob as a cryptic teaser image thingy? Wasn't that related to his birthday too? So there's that... I know this is a longshot, so take it with a grain of salt...but it's still likely, right?
Linkin Park aren't Radiohead, guys, geez. This is a mainstream debut single; what do you really expect? It's for radio. I'm certain other songs on the album will have better lyrics for those who have their underwear in a bunch right now. Anyway, I'm loving this melody! It sounds like it has a lot of potential to me, personally.
