As the 100 hour countdown that enticed the entire fanbase ended, the 00:00:00 time code started glitching and then started counting up instead. This confused all 56 thousand viewers of the livestream, until the counter reached 00:09:05, when it started glitching again. Immediately fans started speculating what it could mean, with the guess that it meant September 5th being the most popular. The glitching repeated at 01:35:00 (95 minutes) and then again at 09:05:00, clearly establishing the pattern. With fans now settling into the waiting for September 5th, the band today announced that indeed something would indeed happen on September 5th, by tweeting out and updating their website, showing a partially updated LP logo and a message reading: Along with this, an email was sent out to members of the bands official fanclub, the LPUnderground, announcing an event on September 5th that they could request tickets for. The message reads: So what do you think will happen on September 5th? Is this a full blown return of Linkin Park after 7 years? Come and discuss in our forums.
I just hope that informations will spread as fast as possible. Propably another announcment for the end of the month (Song/tour announcement) and a new singer. At least that would be my guesses.
Pretty sure there is gonna be something for the larger public and then something special for the LPU members that do get in. The website doesn't reference the LPU event but still shows the 9/05 date. My theory is they release a snippet/trailer of a new song (to be released 2nd week of September, as altguy said?) with a whole "We are back" announcement, while the LPU crowd gets a live performance or a listening party of that new song. Anyway, this is HUGE! I'm so happy they are back. Even if it's gonna be a small run of shows, even if there ISN'T new material, I'm still okay with that. I just want LP to exist as more than a legacy act, and it does seem we are heading into something new. Let's go!
Yeah I have to assume this will be a live reveal of the new vocalist and they'll perform some tracks, potentially even a new one. Evidently some dude called "Altguy" who got all of the Twenty One Pilots leaks right has stated that a new LP song is coming out in 2nd week of September. If that's the case, I can see LP and the new vocalist perform the song on Sept 5. Also I have a feeling the logo won't just be LP but LP with something to represent the new vocalist and era.
Oh man, this is wild! I really wanna sign up for tickets but not sure if I really should, those flight tickets out of Toronto to LA aren’t looking pretty this last min Ahhhhhhh
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised by that. Like STP with Chester. But if the vocalist is relatively unknown, I can see just the logo being slightly updated with something to represent the new era.
I don't think they'll change the name. Bands have come back after members have passed away with the same name before, and they will do so again.
Altguy also correctly predicted "She Couldn't", "Lost", "Friendly Fire" and some other LP song a few years ago before Chester passed that I can't remember right now. He's been absolutely dead on with every single 'leak'. If he's saying this, you can bet money something is on the way.
Looking forward to this a lot. Exciting times - a big part of me was convinced a day like this would never come. If they went for a single new lead singer (VS multiples guests), I hope that person has a strong spirit, and the nerves to deal with some unavoidable backlash. I am sure many, many fans will be supportive as well. If they are about to release new music, I hope the first song will slap. Something memorable. It is a huge opportunity to re-introduce the band to the world, after 7 long years. Obviously, it is going to feel, and to be very different from anything that came before. If this is a full come back, the band will find itself in a position where they have more to prove again. Mike has described "Papercut" as their "business card" song back then. Here is to wonder if they can replicate that level of excitement - not in sound, but in spirit - 24 years later. Whatever it is though : so glad it is happening!
Well, there you go. If that's the case, I absolutely expect to see the band perform the new song on Sept 5th with the new vocalist. There seems to be a lot of excitement from everyone involved. I hope whatever they put out becomes a massive success in the way they want it to be. I also, personally, hope its an interesting track.
I have strong faith in the band that whatever they're about to release will be excellent and worthy of being their first comeback single. They know the stakes and would not even entertain the thought of returning if they didn't make music they were thrilled with as a collective. Heck, "Looking For An Answer," a song they fully intended to release and show us the recording process of, ended up being scrapped because they weren't comfortable with it, and nothing they did in the studio was able to live up to the feeling of the original track. With Mike's solo stuff, it's different because the only person he needs to make happy is himself. With a Linkin Park track, five people have to vote on the songs and approve them to advance. Sure, some albums are liked more or less in the fanbase, but I challenge the thought process that any of them are objectively terrible (yes, Minus, that includes Meteora - which I do feel has some redeeming qualities). With verbal evidence that they've been writing together since before the pandemic, it's clear that they've put a lot of time and effort into this. Everyone involved seems incredibly excited for what's to come (with some old-school LP team members even returning), so we're in for a treat. Yes, it won't be Chester, but I think if we give it a fair chance and try to listen to it without a "Well, this isn't Chester-era Linkin Park" lens, we'll probably enjoy it. We need to treat this like it's an entirely new band, and we're being introduced to their music for the first time because, in many ways, it will be. Chester wasn't just a singer in the band; he was part of the creative hive-mind of Linkin Park. A new person, if indeed we're getting one, will naturally change the style of the music because their mind works differently than Chester's did. I'm confident that the band's new music will be great. Let's approach this with an open mind, as if we're discovering a new band for the first time. I believe we'll be pleasantly surprised.
Welp, looks like you're not living long enough to hear what new Linkin Park sounds like. (for anyone unfamiliar, please know I'm joking)
We'll see. Their attitude towards it may have changed over the years, but as recently as 2020/2021, Mike said they were no longer pursuing it because it made a lot of the band members feel very uncomfortable. My guess is that it reminds them too much of that day, and the days that followed. I have no doubts that there will be some songs about Chester, if we're getting a new record, but there's a fair chance LFAA won't be one of them.
