I love how open they are being about the song's themes. Most of their lyrics already feel more personal than political, but it's rare for them to openly talk about the exact experiences that inspired them.
Great stuff, thanks Joe for putting this up. Has anyone pointed out the fact that Linkin Park has always been reluctant and hesitant to explain their song lyrics but they are doing it more openly this time? Heavy has been explained plenty of times, Invisible is about parenthood, Talking to Myself is about the loved one's perspective during struggle and One More Light is about a loss. We had never gotten this type of information before. Maybe because the guys clearly know where the words are coming from and they really are close to heart. These are strong topics. Can't wait for the album.
It's never been hard for them to explain the subject matter in their lyrics. There are just times when they put in some real effort to explain things and times where they don't When they promoted "Meteora", for example, they spoke about what "Somewhere I Belong" and "Breaking The Habit" were talking about. When they did press for "Minutes To Midnight", there were a lot of quotes about the themes in "What I've Done" and "The Little Things Give You Away"
I really love the piece. Pretty nice seeing what's in the band's head and looking at what they're cooking up. Also I love the "In the End" quote because it sums up exactly what I've been saying about ITE being a pop song.
In The End is one of the few singles and songs from HT/M that I still enjoy. And it is the poppier element of the song that keeps it aging so well, I think. Especially the "I put my trust in you" bridge.
What took my notice was the sales update for ATS (4 million). In the end is extremely poppy. That's why it was such a huge hit. That's why LP were so big back then. Because of their poppy element to rock music.
Chester himself says it in the last page. Yes, it's a rap metal song, but it's also a pop song, because: 1) The piano is easy to the ears and instantly memorable. 2) It's heavy enough to be a metal song, but it's light enough to be played on radio and become one of the band's biggest hits. 3) The lyrics - the verses, the chorus and especially the bridge - are catchy as fuck. Other pop LP songs: Waiting for the End, Numb, Burn It Down, What I've Done, etc.
In the end is very poppy, prob the most poppiest LP song will ever do. Nothing they do will ever out pop that song if you know what i mean. When most ppl think of LP they think of In the end. That song is what the LP foundation stands for, from the piano, mikes rapping, chester's heavy and soft vocals, guitar riffs. In the end will live on forever, that song is truly timeless and has become a classic imo.
I have to believe that the hat is some sort of inside joke with the band. I find it hard to believe that they actually wear it because they think it looks good...
A song cannot do as well as "In The End" did without being a pop song. They've put out a lot of radio-friendly singles since "In The End". "Numb" and "New Divide" are big examples
I think it suits em. Not all the time tho. I just think they are trying to sell the new look for the new music.
That's obivously why they keep changing who gets to wear it at different times. They found the loophole.
If ITE is pop song, then what the hell is Heavy comparing to it? überpop? And comparing ITE to current rock charts where Blondie etc are considered rock, ITE is a hellish metal song. I must agree that ITE is a radio frielndy song but i will never be fully convinced it's a pop genre.
