I'mma need a bucket to fill up these tears from all the feels. Thanks Kanye. On a serious note, I now love this song. Really genuine (Yes, even with the autotune).
Nah, I just flat-out can't stand the way overly-auto-tuned vocals sound. If it was something more along the lines of Runaway where he used it sparingly through most of the song, that wouldn't bother me. Instead I'm listening to this really personal track in which Kanye sounds like his acid reflux is backing that quesadilla he ate earlier into his esophagus.
But really, Kanye + auto-tune, it's a tale as old as time. I've gotten used to it, and I really do enjoy it here.
I know it's a 'tale as old as time', and I understand it's not the first time he's done it or other artists have done it...but it just doesn't sound well done. It seems like the filter was just quickly applied with the retuning speed set to high and no additional post processing done. The autotuning is 'jarring' and doesn't sound musical or go with the song. If it flowed with the song I wouldn't mind it, but every time it does a very sharp pitch correction (which happens OFTEN in the song) it totally takes me out of the listening experience.
What I like about Kanye's use of auto-tune is the vocal layering, the auto-tune choir if you will, which he makes us of in this track as well. However, that element as well, I feel, just sounds too... big for a song like this. I don't mind it too much but it's a pity, I feel like it would've been a more solid track without this amount of auto-tune. With that said, though, like I've said before, I really appreciate this track. Like someone on Twitter said: it's good to hear Kanye being human again. also: who is this Paul McCarthy chap? he's good
My counter is that I love 808&H but the autotunen that album is infinitely better. He took the time to craft a nice preset that fit the album. This auto tune doesn't fit the song. It's on such a high setting the pitch is going everywhere trying to correct Kanye. And he kept the singing simple on 808s. I don't need Kanye attempting auto tuned runs with the pitch correcting like 5 times every line. That's not musical. That's just kind of lazy. But I doubt he really meant for our to be super polished. Just a throwaway for the fans. This song would have been filler on 808s. It's just okay.
I agree! Anyway, Only One was ruined by the autotune. Rihanna's new song is good but Kanyes part is trash. This album not shaping up good if he's going to use forced sounding autotune the whole album.
http://www.kanyewest.com/ Official video to Only One, directed by Spike Jonze. I like it. Shows a different side of Kanye.
Never really looked at the lyrics or really listened to them the few times I listened to this song but I didn't realize that it was from his mother's point of view. This song is amazing and the video is simple and great.
"Wolves" is interesting to say the least. I'm not sure what direction this album is going at this point, the song contains no rapping. Just Kanye with autotune ft Sia & Vic Mensa. Honestly, I'm really digging it, but I've always preferred the 808s style Kanye. I've been having a waning interest in hip-hop lately anyways. For those that haven't heard it yet, you can hear most of it here (Skip to 8:30) There's also a really low quality version, I don't recommend listening to that one.
It'd be interesting to see Yeezy try an album with hardly any rapping again after "808s", and let that concept come full-circle. Maybe "All Day" isn't a cut for the new album at all
holy shit. VIC MENSA made it. i'm really looking forward to hearing the CDQ. otherwise the album rn is pretty dull, imo.
