Halo's level design was crappy, and there were one or two decent levels such as Halo and The Maw, but i'm not basing my decision on the single-player. Halo's muti-player was the most fun you can have in a room without a condom. Me and my mates regularly link up xbox systems and have all nighters with a lan connection. I am a big fan of the multi-player and that what has got my attention for Halo 2. That's the reason Halo 2 has my hopes up, not to mention the xbox live capabilities this time around.

Now if you want to talk single player, Half-Life looks incredible and i cannot wait for the sequel. Although i'll be waiting for the xbox version as my pc pretty much sucks. Half-Life 2's single player will most likely piss all over Halo 2's but that doesnt bother me as such, as the multi-player is what i'm after in Halo 2, the single-player is just an an added bonus for me.

As for Metroid, they are in the same genre to a certain extent, as you said, but i personelly wouldnt class them together as such. Metroid is deeper as you said, which in my opinion makes it an adventure game based in first person, therefore deffering the genre from that of Halo wich requires very limited exploration and is alot more action based. Don't get me wrong i'm not saying either is better than the other, it's just that are very different games with different intentions.

Halo 2 won't have redundant levels this time around. Bungie is a company that listens to its fans and they said that the levels wouldn't be as samey in Halo 2.

I agree completely, and i believe it. That was one of my strongest criticisms for Halo, the poor level design. I'm sure Bungie will take knowledge of this and will produce something alot more amazing for the single player this time around.

What's scaring me though this time around is that the multi-player is being well thought out and being made alot larger than that saw in it's predecessor. Halo's multi-player was a last minute adjustment for the game, but this time round could the ever-growing adjustments to the multi-player be too much? are they taking the simplicity of Halo multi-player too far? what with dual weopons, vehicle damage, flag and gun physic consideration. I hope it don't become too done over and ruin what was simple and amazing.

Well I'll agree with you on pretty much all counts there :)

I should note that I actually didn't like the original Half-Life -- I just didn't find it fun at all. I also didn't like the whole FPS-meets-platformer type style. Half-Life 2, on the other hand, looks absolutely amazing, which is why I want it.

Will: judging from the Halo 2 movies I'd say that Bungie did good this time 'round, because it looked much better in terms of level design... that's why I'm looking forward to it, too, even though I didn't like the original :)

I enjoyed Half-Life until i came across Barnicles (those red things with tongues that hang from the ceiling), man, they scared me sh*tless, i played the game in fear. It takes alot to scare me in video games, Silent Hill...laughable. Resident Evil...no problem. Britney's Dance Beat...okay a little scary, but nothing i couldnt handle. Half-Life...my god, it took me ages to go through one room. Constantly looking at the ceiling, and you know what the worst part is...Theyre back for the sequel!!! :chemist:

Other than the redundant level design in Halo, my only other gripe was the fact that the game was too short—even on Legendary. Hopefully Halo 2 is a lot longer. I love long games.

God, you guys think this one's EVER gonna come out? It's been delayed what, 3 years now? Sucks, cause I used to be quite the Duke fan (and still am)...I could own anybody 400-0 at Dukematch in DN3D. They had a booth for virtual reality (helmet and all) Duke 3D at the airshow here a few years ago, and I spend 30 bucks defending my dynasty. At one point, I took on 3 people at once and only got killed twice...while I dished out 74 helpings of good ol' homestyle pain. The RPG was the best gun out there, hands-down...especially since you can start all kinds of crap with it. I had a few good strategies, the best being the "fake-your-own-death" routine with the macros...I'd bind a macro to "Killed (my dukematch name)", and whenever some clod was pounding me with missed RPG fire, I'd flash it...they'd think I was dead and while they're walking away in victory, I toast 'em. Fooled people for years...

Will: What's the last PC game you bought? Those are not demanding requirements at all.

Neil: Halo was never meant to be ground-breaking or realistic, that's why it's set in the future and in space with aliens. Halo was meant to be ground-breaking on console standards with physics, and you obviously played the worst version of Halo on PC, so I can see why you were disappointed. I regret to play Halo on PC anytime. Secondly, how is Half-Life ground-breaking? The same way Halo was, with the physics and gameplay. Not realistic, and not innovative in the masses. Half-Life opened many doors to online gaming, and Halo has not. Sure there may be more LAN parties and more tournaments, but it's still a standard FPS.

Call me a fanboy if you like, but I loved Halo, my favorite game since Half-Life, and I'll be willing to argue this more thoroughly in a messenger or through PM anytime you'd like, but let's keep it off the forums.

it only influence every game in the fps genre on the pc to come after it, play all game before half-life, then play hl, and see how games changed. The biggest and most notable is the way it had pre-scripted fights. One of the very few times in my gamming history where my mouth actually dropped, was when I played HL and saw my very first pre-scripted fight between soldiers and aliens, Soldiers game bursting through the wall and dropped the landing platform and deployed like Normandy, that was amazing.

And will, those specs are low, for any new game, those specs are very low. [Just consider how the game looks!]

    What?! Those requirements are nothing!

    Windows 98/2000/Me/XP - Who doesn't?
    700 MHz CPU - Hardly anything. I have a computer thats getting onto 4yrs old, it's 450mhz.
128 MB RAM - Most computers have 512 or at least 256 megs ram by now
DX6 compatible video card - DX6 is really damn old.
3 GB free HD space - Nothing at all. Most hard drives are huge nowadays

    Recommended System Requirements:

    Windows 98/2000/Me/XP - Check.
2 GHz CPU - Standard for all new PCs
    256 MB RAM - Standard
DX9 compatible video card - If you're a gamer, you have a GOOD Dx9 Card. I personally have an ASUS Radeon 9200 SE 128mb. It was made for Dx9 and it was only 100$CAD with tax
4 GB free HD space - Like I said, not much these days.

Will, I'm not trying to rub this in your face or anything. Keep that in mind. Just clarifying :)

Halo. I meet those requirements times two and the game still runs slow, same with a handful of other games.

Neil: I don't know about you, but I'm not going to run out there and buy a new PC just to buy a game.

I know you're rubbing that in my face.
No, actually I have a 512 stick sitting right next to my computer just waiting to be installed, and DirectX 9b is already out for the Far Cry demo.

I know what you mean, i'm just gonna wait for the xbox version, atleast then i'l know it works perfectly.

It would take a pretty amazing game on the PC to make me get a new PC. Other than that, i would just wait for the console version.

Actually this September I am uphauling my PC. HL2 is the main reason :p

What I forgot to say is that the PC requirements aren't going to go down in the future.

Well... I have a 1.0 GHz processor, 384 MB of RAM, a GeForce FX 5200 graphics card with 128 MB of DDR memory... and it's barely enough to run Halo. I think the main reason is my processor, though. When I crank the graphics in Halo all the way up, it runs really, really slow. It's lame. Oh, well. I'm still getting an Xbox for Halo 2.

I don't see the problem with your computer Will, Half-Life 2 should run pretty decent on your PC. Just max your fps to 100 and rate to 9999 and you'll be just fine, should even out to about 50 fps.
